By Brad Friedman on 12/8/2005 6:58PM

Less than 16 hours after Bob Harris posted about Bill O'Reilly's disingenuousness on his own website, his crew made the obligatory attempt to send yet more evidence of their own hypocrisy down the memory hole...Harris made sure that didn't happen...

(Previously, the Fox "News" website was caught off guard as well, and had to scramble to change the ads for "Holiday Ornaments" in the Fox "Holiday Store" in order to meet the new stringent requirements for their hilarious-were-it-not-so-pathetically-transparent "War on Christmas". Nah, on second though, it is simply hilarious! Happy Holidays!)

Isn't it the standard policy in television to say that the views of a person on their station aren't necessarily the views of the station itself? Does everyone at Fox news have to have the same opinion as O'Reilly?

Anyone who can lie lie lie with such a straight face surely has the number one qualification ... no conscience.

He could go far in this admin after Rove is indicted.

I think what's the most telling is, we get wing-nuts in here commenting on how this is "first grade stuff", yet it's exactly the FACT that O'Reilly -started- this kind of childish crap that they fail to see.. fail to care about.. and are perfectly content to bring up at their "holliday parties" and beat on "libruls" with.. I can see them now, in their fancy suits getting drunk, snorting coke, screwing secrataries, and saying "those damn libruls.. trying to kill Christmas, what a bunch of fucks!".

What's more telling is, Fox is content to suck on the zealot teat.. To do that, they now have to scramble -after the fact- to continue their efforts to convince the public that there's a "war on christmas".. Despite it being accepted for decades that being politically correct (which is a misnomer, we're being tollerant.. but we all know the right-wing isn't tollerant, nor are religious zealots) is an important part of the American Culture.. Seems now christians want THEIR cultulre to be the American Culture.. Too bad the Constitution fobids that, eh? Why do Bill O'Reilly and his followers hate America so much?

The holiday was once secular, and the church was reluctant to use it:

"Puritans passed an anti-Christmas law in 1659, repealed 1681. Christmas celebration was resisted by the Congregationalist Cotton Mather (1663-1728) ... Christmas was unimportant in the United States until 1880's when the church relented" (link here).

> So much of your content here is first grade stuff.

I agree with this person.

What has happened is that liberals have pushed the button for years and now they are pushing more than the public wants. Southern Baptist Presidrnt Carter governed on the left and a group on the right was started called the Moral Majority. Its purpose was no longer needed after awhile. All kinds of groups have sprung up to take its place though - you guys collectively call it the religious right.

No need to emphasize the word Christmas if the word holiday was not being pushed for political correctness.

No need to ban gay marriage if gay marriage was not being pushed.

The silent majority has woken up and you guys do not like it.

Keep pushing the envelope and you will see more of it being pushed back.

There is a religious left too. Two of the sacred sacraments are abortion and gay marriage. I can think of other religious left beliefs - anti-death penalty, anti-war, anti-guns, anti-free speech, anti-American, radical pro-environment, radical animal rights, Anti-God, etc. Several groups come to mind - Peta, ACLU, People for the American Way, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and tons of other groups.

Merry Christmas!

And Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish Brethren.

Paul (you're not Saint Paul, are you? that would be pretty cool - except that you are full of shit)

You say that some envelope is being pushed.
What you do not seem to realize (and I KNOW that you are white) is that oppressed peoples - those who actually are allowed to exercise less freedom than, say, your average white male - do not gain their freedoms, as guaranteed in the Constitution, unless they stand up and demand them.

There is no gay marriage. There is just marriage. And under the Constitution, it is civil union anyway. The government should never have had a say in recognizing it for anyone anyway. Marriage is a religious institution. If a church refuses to marry two people (any two people) it is their prerogative. If they choose to marry two people (any two people, so long as it does not violate the law) that is their prerogative. The government should have no say in this, nor should they refuse to recognize legal civil union between two consenting adults.

Private institutions can say Merry Christmas to their empty little heads' content. Public institutions (schools, government correctional facilities, military installations, courthouses, etc.) should not. That's the first amendment, fucko. I don't give a hoot in hell if the whole country was christian, we are a nation of laws, not of men. That's what you arrogant bastards don't get. You would just as soon shred the constitution and wipe your asses with it. Maybe that's coming.

And fuck you with your "Anti-American" - if the left didn't care about America, we would all have left by now. It is you who are anti-American. Pick up a history of the people who came left England and settled here four hundred years ago, and figure out why they left. And then read about the Founding Fathers. Whatever their personal religious beliefs may have been, they recognized the divisiveness that religion brought to the government, and CHOSE TO LEAVE IT OUT. They didn't "forget" God in the Constitution. They didn't not have the debate. They debated at length, and hotly, whether politics and religion should mix. And they said NO. Get it? NO!

You forget that American Democracy was (is) an experiment, and it may yet fail. As Ben Franklin said "The people have a Republic, if they can keep it." You are the fuckwits who are trying to destroy the Republic. We are the ones trying to keep it.

And all your other laundry list of groups who have somehow roused your "silent majority" - all groups fighting for rights, for fairness, for equality under the law. You just don't give a shit, do you?

Well, have a Merry Go-Fuck-Yourself Christmas, Paul. Stew in your religiosity and self-righteousness.

> Pick up a history of the people who came left England and settled here four hundred years ago, and figure out why they left.

My family were Lutherans and they were being persecuted by Catholic kings. They left Germany for religious freedom and arrived in America on 9/3/1739.

The Bill of Rights just says that the government cannot establish a national religion like Catholicism or Mormonism or Methodism, etc. Since men are religious and men are in the government, the Bill of Rights does not exclude religious influence on the government.

Our laws are based on the 10 Commandments, Jewish Law, and Roman law.

The government is to stay out of the church but that does not mean that the church should stay out of the government. That is why the Supreme Court prays everyday, why we "swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth so help me God" with our right hand on the Bible. Why our laws are based on morality which only comes from God.

This country was founded on Christianity but we did not want to "national" denominational religion like England has.

Thanks for being vulgar too. You leftists continue to prove that I am right about you.

Saint Paul, you are so so very wrong.

The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.
-- Treaty of Tripoli, 1796 (attributed to George Washington)

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law. - Thomas Jefferson

If you want to read more, they are posted at the bottom of this thread: http://www.bradblog.com/...es/00002116.htm#comments

The ten commandments are a farce. Every time you say the flag salute you are committing idolatry. There is one worthwhile moral code in the 10 commandments: Don't Steal. Everything else useful is a variation of that.

Religious men in government are not supposed to govern solely on the basis of their religion. If religion defines their morality so be it, but they are to act according to the law. Again, we are a nation of laws, NOT of men.

Also, Saint Paul, I'm sure you'll enjoy this:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24.
The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Thanks Soul Rebel for proving me right again.

Liberals love to bring up these Old Testament laws.

You need to remember that some law is civil, some law is ceremonial, and some law is God's moral law.

You have to take the Bible as a whole.

God was never for slavery but He allowed it. He used the master and slave concept to teach us how to treat others even in bad situations and to teach us that He is the ultimate Master of the universe.

Jesus said in the beginning marriage was between one man and one woman and there should be no divorce. But because man is "evil" and lives in a "fallen world," God allowed divorce through Moses and via a written document. Jesus spoke of this in Matthew (New Testament). We still do that today with divorce - through a piece of paper.

God also had to teach man about holiness and unholiness. Pigs were considered to be unholy to Jews and not to be eaten but then the New Testament said all meat is good to eat. It was a way to teach man the difference between holy and unholy or clean and uncleanliness. Only God is Holy and to be worshipped as such.

Jews sacrificed an unblemished lamb to God. Blood was seen as forgiveness and redemption. Then Jesus came along as the unblemished lamb and shed His blood for our forgiveness. Jews and everyone else no longer need to sacrifice a lamb because Jesus the lamb was slain for all of us.

In Christianity, God became flesh and walked among us and died for us. In Islam, you must die for Allah in Jihad as your only salvation. In many other religions, your good works are seen as your salvation. In Christianity, our good works are like filthy rags to God and we are saved by his grace, and not of ourselves.

JayDub - once again, with feeling - we are a secular nation. Done. All the crap that Saint Paul spouted about Christianity and the Bible is useful only if you are a Christian. Many in this country are not. Anyone who says that out laws are based on the ten commandments is uneducated about our history as a nation. I don't see where I got destroyed...point it out to me? Are you basing it on someone's profession of faith, or claim to interpretation of the Bible? If so, it means nothing to me. Give me something tangible.

As far as me being pathetic - from you I take it as a compliment. Means I'm doing my job.

"I need to remember"?? I don't need to remember anything except the Constitution. If you want to have your theocracy, YOU go have it somewhere else.

How do you figure I am a white man in a government job? Just curious.

This was recited in Congress by a congressman from MI.

Twas the week before Christmas and all through the House
No bills were passed ‘bout which Fox News could grouse;
Tax cuts for the wealthy were passed with great cheer,
So vacations in St. Barts soon would be near;

Katrina kids were nestled all snug in motel beds,
While visions of school and home danced in their heads;
In Iraq our soldiers needed supplies and a plan,
Plus nuclear weapons were being built in Iran;

Gas prices shot up, consumer confidence fell;
Americans feared we were on a fast track to…well…
Wait --- we need a distraction --- something divisive and wily;
A fabrication straight from the mouth of O’Reilly

We can pretend that Christmas is under attack
Hold a vote to save it --- then pat ourselves on the back;
Silent Night, First Noel, Away in the Manger
Wake up Congress, they’re in no danger!

This time of year we see Christmas every where we go,
From churches, to homes, to schools, and yes…even Costco;
What we have is an attempt to divide and destroy,
When this is the season to unite us with joy

At Christmas time we’re taught to unite,
We don’t need a made-up reason to fight
So on O’Reilly, on Hannity, on Coulter, and those right wing blogs;
You should just sit back, relax…have a few egg nogs!

‘Tis the holiday season: enjoy it a pinch
With all our real problems, do we honestly need another Grinch?

So to my friends and my colleagues I say with delight,
A merry Christmas to all,
and to Bill O’Reilly…Happy Holidays.

While the goals of the U.S. and the Philippines seem to be the same regarding elections --- fair and fraud-free, their methods are diametrically opposed. The Philippines is desperate to get away from paper ballots and automate their elections, and the U.S., having been there done that, is heading in the opposite direction.
