Senator Pat Roberts convinced Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee to vote to kill an investigation into the NSA domestic spying scandal. Instead of an investigation, Republican Senators Hagel, Snow and Dewine agreed to create a new subcommittee that would oversee future domestic spying by the NSA.

Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller said that "this is an unprecedented bow to political pressure from the White House."

The new Atlantic has an article about Bush and his power grab. It's called:

The Man Who Would be King

Looks like Congress won't block his coronation.

He also whitewashed the 9/11 commission report, and has never moved onto phase II of it, which is to research whether the Bush administration purposely misused intelligence to lie us into the Iraq War.

Sen. Pat Roberts is a criminal! He is behind all of the killing of investigations into the Bush administration. How does he have so much power? No one is pointing this out in the MSM.

An accommodation will also be found for the Dubai deal. The repiglicans in congress are cut off the money if they don't cooperate, and the democrats must have guns at their heads. There isn't any other explanation for them to act this way. Our country has been hijacked, and the hijackers still have their weapons out.

They've been feeding us enough scary information to keep us afraid to rise up and take our country back. I mean, how many haven't heard about the Halliburton contract to build a bunch of detention camps "in case of sudden massive influxes of refugees"?

Repugs truely are despicable people.. both the leaders, and any "Republican" who can stand behind those leaders they put in office. Lines are being drawn.. be careful which side you are standing on.

This has got to be it!!

We simply must do something. Nothing ever gets investigated with one party controlling everything.

Pat Roberts is one big huge snake in the grass. He is always against any investigation of the Bush Baby.

I wrote Hagel about this issue last week and called him on Monday to ask him to vote for an investigation. I should have known when the cameras weren't rolling he'd vote against an investigation. What a waste of my money to even bother.

RLM #15

I agree that it is not unpresidented, it happens every day in congress.

Here is an example which shows that congress is a ONE PARTY system, not a two party system, because of fundamental flaws in the laws that regulate congress.

All committees are governed and operated by the majority party.

The majority party gets the chairmanship and the majority of votes on each and every committee in the senate and the house.

The majority party is simply that party which has the greatest number of congress members, whether we are talking senate or house.

No legislation nor oversight can be done by congress except thru committees. If the chairman or the majority members do not want oversight or legislation, the minority members of the committee can do nothing about it.

Concerning the intelligence committee which oversees domestic spying on americans, it was said:

"The committee, to put it bluntly, is basically under the control of the White House through its chairman," said a visibly frustrated Sen. John Rockefeller of West Virginia, ranking Democrat on the intelligence committee." (link here).

Until congress becomes more democratic by using laws that grant all elected officials there more than a seat to warm, with zero power, this will continue. That much power in the control of any one party is not going to work democracy.

We have a dictatorship by one party which is running roughshod over the other parties.

Pat Roberts, another betrayer to his oath of office. Perhaps we should put more pressure on the moderate republicans to break ranks such as Ron Paul. McCain has become a waste of time. I used to like Hagel but now he's gone over to the dark side. Who else can we call on? Tobor the 8th man? There has to be sombody who will stand up to these sorry excuses for representatives.

Big Dan - I take affront when you catagorize all Texans in one basket. Editors in Sugar Land have been reporting on Delay since 1998.

But when Bush spends tax payer dollars to come and vote for him, those who want favors will kiss his ass.

But look at our spineless Senators and Congressmen, Rove owns them all from finding skeletons in their closets or paying them off.

Say what you will but strange how ONLY women are coming out with backbone against Katrina handling, Dubai, you name it.

Watch Lou Dobbs, you will get to know who has a backbone.

Don't know what you mean by only women coming out against the Dubai deal. Peter King, who I have no great affection for, is one of the strongest voices against the deal. Probably politically motivated since he is one of Bushies strongest backers but we'll see what comes of it. In the meantime, we still need to focus on getting rid of these damn electronic voting machines. King still isn't getting my vote (I hope).

Continuing to stay off-topic:

There were no exit polls taken in Texas. The Republicans didn't want to take the chance that they might embarrass the boss, who they KNEW would win.

On a brighter side, the drive to get enough signatures of non-primary-voters (Save Your Vote for Kinky) to put Kinky Friedman on the ballot for the Governorship (He's not Kinky --- He's My Governor) is gaining strength every day.

The time is coming. We must be prepared. If they continue their six-year roll of election theft in November 2006, we MUST be prepared to GO TO THE STREETS and TURN THIS AROUND PHYSICALLY!

We must take the Ukrainians as our role models --- proof that a people denied the fair counting of their ballots CAN and MUST force the issue through non-violent protest.

November 8, 2006 --- the beginning of our last chance to save ourselves. Bring your gas mask --- it could get ugly!

Our primaries are only picking who will run against the other party in November. No one voted Delay back in just that he is allowed to try.

Truly he will be stomped out in November, but since his cronies put him on the Appropriations Committee he can swing deals for the loyal.
Talk about the fox in the hen house !

Wouldn't it be great if he were in jail by November?

I agree and was most surprised at Pete King's reversal from staunchly supporting Bush. Wonder if the strong Union on the docks had any input.

The women I've seen, Susan Collins, Barbara Boxer, and Nancy Pelosi seem less afraid to speak frankly. Collins even said, Frist is backpedaling from his first stand against the Dubai sale.
Just wonder who will remain standing in 45 days.

Even Delay made a weak comment against the Dubai deal which was only for the cameras I'm certain. He would not turn on his buddy Bush or Rove.

Pelosi is the only one who made Bush acknowledge the Katrina mess when she stormed his office.

Respect the office of the Presidency does not mean giving a blank check to someone who is destroying our country as fast as he can.

When Sen Susan Collins has the courage to say Frist is back pedaling on his original stand against Dubai, and Nancy Pelosi has the courage to confront the President to get off his dead butt and do something.

Don't understand Pete Kings agenda but hope he will finally rally the good ole boys to remind Bush who pays his salary and can we hope remove him from office.

Dubai's Port deal extends to ports in Houston, Corpus Christi and Beaumont which ship military hardware to our people all around the world.

Dubai is also planning to buy a company that supplies components for our military aircraft.

Sure don't know why we should worry tho, Homeland Security will take care of us, like the 1300 people who died in New Orleans.

Why organize just one day. Take the names of big republican donors and STOP BUYING FROM THEM .why pay taxes when democrats are shut out of the legislative process. It goes much furthur that commitee chairs. Lobbyists write the bills. Delay twists arms in the house or used to for bills that only benefit corporations. I wrote Sen. Snowe about the FISA investigation...she is my senator. I hated that I lost my cool with "After the Alito vote I consider you useless." She caved. There is a man who follows Collins around at public appearances and says'"Why won't you debate the Iraq war in public?" A group of veterans for peace protested in front of Snowe's house with,"We will turn you out of office." We will too. Makes the TV news.

I think you know DeLay has not been re-elected, but instead that he has been choosen by republicans in a republican primary to be the republican candidate in November.

That is good for the democratic opponent.

In the election in November he will be opposed by a non-crook honest person, so that is when he will face re-election, and face difficulties.

His opponent was defeated a couple of years ago after DeLay gerrymandered the district boundaries to favor DeLay.

That issue is currently before the Supreme Court and the district could be changed back to be fair to all running in the election.

Anything fair like that is not going to help DeLay.

I am glad he is the republican candidate, because he represents the soul of this rubber stamp republican congress, and they are in political trouble. "Bush registers a 38% approval rating with a 60% disapproval rating.

VotersUnite.org's Daily Voting News 'Daily Voting News'
for July 2-3, 2009

by Ellen Theisen

Co-Editors: Dave Klein and John Washburn

While the goals of the U.S. and the Philippines seem to be the same regarding elections --- fair and fraud-free, their methods are diametrically opposed. The Philippines is desperate to get away from paper ballots and automate their elections, and the U.S., having been there done that, is heading in the opposite direction.
