Says Company Activity Could be in 'Significant Violation of State Election Law'
NOTE TO MSM: Nothing to read here. Move on.

The E-Voting Train Wreck continues...

This from a statement released today by the Indiana Secretary of State (to get just a tiny idea of what this statement is in reference to see the "Train Wreck" article linked above...and just about every other damn thing we've been running here at BRAD BLOG for the last God-knows-how-many weeks/months/years)...

Today Secretary of State Todd Rokita announced his intention to bring an enforcement action against the Nebraska based voting system firm, Election Systems and Software. Secretary Rokita will personally conduct a public hearing to determine whether election law violations have occurred, and whether the company should be fined. County sequencing errors and paper ballot problems, noted by Rokita's office this week, have combined to quickly escalate already disturbingly poor service at the county level into what could be a significant violation of state election law. "I have ordered our legal staff to immediately set hearing dates and subpoena company officials," Rokita said.

The Indianapolis Star begins their coverage this way:

The Indiana secretary of state's office is investigating possible law violations by two voting machine companies, as doubts continue about possible hitches in next month's primary elections.

"To protect the voices of Hoosier voters, I intend to hold hearings on these matters to determine whether Indiana law has been violated, and if so, to hold the appropriate parties accountable," Secretary of State Todd Rokita said in a statement today.

"Hoosier taxpayers, voters and county officials deserve voting systems that comply with the high standards mandated by Indiana law."

Rokita said his office, which administers elections across the state, would bring an "enforcement action" to determined whether Election Systems and Software, a Nebraska voting system company, should be fined.

NOTE TO NATIONAL MAINSTREAM MEDIA: Please pay no attention whatsoever to any of the above. It's just a small local story. Nothing of interest. No pattern here here that effects our country as a whole in any way. All is well. Please enjoy your Easter Holiday break! Thank you.

A little sarcastic today are we?

LOL

Another SOS wakes up to these faulty machines.

If one SOS says we're not going to take it, maybe some one will listen,
If two SOS say we're not going to take it, maybe some one will question,
If ten SOS say we're not going to take it, maybe it will start a movement,
If forty SOS say we're not going to take it, maybe we will have our elections back!

It is also interesting that this happen in a state that has been known to lean pretty strongly GOP historically. Hence, it could represent a very significant trend toward increasing exposure of e-vote fraud.

Great to see an election official actually get involved in something they're getting paid for as opposed to a citizen who's not.

I really think it's time that an election official be held accountable for at least something as serious as a parking ticket. That goes for you too Mr. Hagel. I haven't forgotten you were involved in this company at one time and neglected to say so when you ran for election. I never forget that when I see you on TV espousing your integrity.

The sarcasm is justified and also quite funny!

Not to worry Brad. Corporate Press won't worry their pretty little heads about anything so trivial as the death of our democracy.

We've long known this battle is ours alone. Both Dems and Repubs seem quite comfortable with the status quo. But be confident Mr. Friedman, that your endless and hard work IS making a difference. It's happening in steady drips, and once a faucet starts leading it's not long before the waterworks begin! (Or something like that!) LOL!

I think it wouldn't hurt if 6 or 7 of us wrote and thanked Rokita for doing his job. Use your own street address and:

One thing I have never seen in any of these discussions about the whole electronic voting debacle: is there any company in America that is making an attempt to do "e-voting" right? Assuming the fact that the country is, for better or worse, heading inevitably away from paper-and-pencil voting to electronic form, isn't there a golden opportunity for some company to step up as a "white knight" with an electronic system that actually does it right, with simple reliable hardware and equally simple, open-source, security-verifiable, reliable software (i.e. not running on Windows)? Why are we stuck only with Diebold, ESS, and Sequoia as our choices?

VotersUnite.org's Daily Voting News 'Daily Voting News'
for July 2-3, 2009

by Ellen Theisen

While the goals of the U.S. and the Philippines seem to be the same regarding elections --- fair and fraud-free, their methods are diametrically opposed. The Philippines is desperate to get away from paper ballots and automate their elections, and the U.S., having been there done that, is heading in the opposite direction.
