(The BRAD BLOG Makes it Into Song!)

BRAD BLOG reader and kick-ass blues man Shannon Williford (that's him at right) sends us a rockin' blues ditty titled simply "Election Reform".

While we're fairly certain it's the first blues tune to include the word "blogs" in the lyrics, we're damn near positive it's the first one to include the words "BradBlog.com" in it. And even "VotersUnite.org" (shout out to our pal John Gideon!) makes the cut for that matter. And others as well!

Shannon posted the lyrics, some observations on playing this song around Nashville and a few other thoughts on the current state of anti-establishment music in this comment on our Neil Young Living With War album review.

The tune certainly makes me smile. Hope it does the same for you. Turn up the speakers and...Give it a listen!

(Here are additional details on Williford's Delicious Blues Stew!)

I gotta thank you for postin' this Brad.
Also thanks to Ross Falzone, who played guitar and recorded "Election Reform" for me over at his place.
If y'all wanna hear some great protest music as well as kick-ass modern rock, check out Ross' latest rekkid. It's powerful stuff!

Cool. Shannon reminded me of a certain song:

"Nashville Cats, play clean as country water
Nashville Cats, play wild as mountain dew
Nashville Cats, been playin' since they's babies
Nashville Cats, get work before they're two
"

(Lovin Spoonful).

Percentage of Uninsured Americans Rising
By THERESA AGOVINO, AP Business Writer

Tue Apr 25, 10:48 PM
NEW YORK - The percentage of working-age Americans with moderate to middle incomes who lacked health insurance for at least part of the year rose to 41 percent in 2005, a dramatic increase from the 28 percent in 2001 without coverage, a study released on Wednesday found.

Moreover, more than half of the uninsured adults said they were having problems paying their medical bills or had incurred debt to cover their expenses, according to a report by the Commonwealth Fund, a New York-based private, health care policy foundation. The study of 4,350 adults also found that people without insurance were more likely to forgo recommended health screenings such as mammograms than those with coverage, and were less likely to have a regular doctor than their insured counterparts.

The report paints a bleak health care picture for the uninsured. "It represents an explosion of the insurance crisis into those with moderate incomes," said Sara Collins, a senior program officer at the Commonwealth Fund.

Great job! Reminded me of Canned Heat.

Jo-Joy - I live here in a red state, but we do have a world class cartoonist at the Salt Lake Tribune who has a couple of Bush-unfriendly titles out there. "Clueless George Goes To War" and "101 Ways To Survive Four More Years Of George Bush".

One of the 101 ways to survive is to sign up for the Bush health plan, and shows of family of four with hands clasped in prayer saying "Please God don't let anything happen..."

I recently got laid off my job of 25 years and will be joining the uninsured this next week!

Yeah Shannon! Been seeing and knowing this man for a good long time and he's gone and done it once again. I'd rate this one up there with some of his other classics such as Decon Poisoning(another true story song), Cal Daniels(yet another true BR Blues tune), and Chicken Peace. So, this one gonna be on the next Stew rekkid or what? Now ya'll go and check out Delicious Blues Stew.

Nice work gentlemen,...

Shannon and Brad THX for the sharing.

Off topic,... sorta,... but another rat-race diversion,..

This is interesting,...

Just over the boarder,... up in Canada an eagle was building a nest,... someone
installed a web cam the next tree over,.. 40ft away,... the web cam has been watching the nest,.. then three eggs,.. then the eggs just hatched yesterday,...
if you are lucky and watching at the right time you can see the eagle take flight
and run an errant to (Shaw's) for some baby formula and disposable diapers and return to the nest,... web cam on 24/7.

Eagle nest web cam : Link

As the little ones mature,.. mothers food runs should increase in frequency.

Nice work Shannon, thanks for e-mailing me and letting me know about your music. As one who writes nothing but social justice music, it has often felt well, issolating over the last couple of decades. Much less so today. Thanks again. If political songwriters can get their act together in this climate, we may be able get some real work done, and have a good time in the process.

Should we start a web site for this sort of music? One that interlinks to A.A. and Political Blogs?

VotersUnite.org's Daily Voting News 'Daily Voting News'
for July 2-3, 2009

by Ellen Theisen

Co-Editors: Dave Klein and John Washburn

While the goals of the U.S. and the Philippines seem to be the same regarding elections --- fair and fraud-free, their methods are diametrically opposed. The Philippines is desperate to get away from paper ballots and automate their elections, and the U.S., having been there done that, is heading in the opposite direction.
