Debra Bowen, author of the “Bowen Amendment” (SB 370) which mandated “paper trails” for all votes in California, is now running for Secretary of State out here. She blogs about the now-nearly-infamous “Hack Test” that may soon occur on Diebold machines here in California.
She also asks that you sign her email petition demanding current Sec. of State Bruce McPherson thoroughly test such machines before they are certified by the state. I ask you to do so as well!
You don’t need to be in California to sign the petition, as far as I know. And since what happens here will soon happen there, I strongly recommend you sign it.
(I recommend this because it’s important, not just because she called me her “hero” during a joint appearance earlier today on KRXA 540am. Though that didn’t hurt! 😉
UPDATE 12/5/05: Bowen’s office sends this information to clarify one of my statements above:
Hope that makes sense.
It does indeed, and my thanks to Bowen’s office for sending over the clarification!

I stand with you Debra…..Its time to nail these voting machines where the son don’t shine….at the bottom of BOSTON HARBOR!!!!
Doug E.
I stand with you too, Debra. At least I’d like to. What are you doing for dinner next Saturday night?
We need paper ballots. A ballot is a legal document. I have no idea what a receipt is legally.
Repeat after me "paper ballot". Stop with receipt and paper trail lingo.
The main issue is that the trail be at least as good as the ATM is. Diebold makes ATM’s for dollars, and damn sure can make them as good for elections.
The fact that any voting company would make machines that are inferior to the quality that is standard in ATM machines is an indicator of a background of suspicious goings on.
And the fact that exit polls completely support those suspicions mandates that voting machine usage be brought under the strict control that ATM usage is.
Yes, Brad she did call you her hero.
I was listening.
🙂
I’m on the east coast, but if you’re sure you don’t need to be a California resident I’ll sign up. We can’t afford to lose California. I really can’t believe what I’m reading.
WTF is happening to our country?
…nonbeliever WTF HAS happening to our country?
Tell everybody you know about these incremental erosions of your rights to representative government …5 fricken’ years …to anyone just casually watching, the 2000 election fiasco was “writing on the wall” in letters as high as the Supreme Court Building that something was horribly wrong with your voting system. I think I read that each vote cost $56, can you believe that, $56 per voter and look what you get !
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not blaming GWB, Cheney, Kerry, Edwards etc. for this situation because there is well over 100 million voter that allowed and are allowing this problem to persist. At $56 per head?
…5 fricken’ years …we in the “outside world” are watching and waiting for an “American Hero” to step up to the plate and put “TRUTH” ahead of “TAKE”.
…nonbeliever read this list of crimes ,unbelieverable but true …

You got it, Debra!
This is just the sort of pressure that needs to be applied. I think California has itself a true public servant candidate for SoS at last, who’s a real winner to boot!
Thank you.
Bloggers, let’s get this petition circulated.
MMIIXX, thank you for the link to WMR! That man is an investigative reporter which is why I haven’t read a so called "newspaper" since Nov 2004. The common thread through 90% of these – Abramoff!
For MMIIXX: The only thing wrong with the Madsen report is that it focuses on Republicans only.
They have the bulk of the ethically challenged, no question. But to compile a GOP scorecard only invites cries of "Democrats do it, too." We could find Democrats who took money from Abramoff and did favors for casino interests. I like Wayne Madsen, but as long as he calls this thing a "GOP Scorecard," it will invite protests from the G.O.P. leadership that Madsen is involved in a partisan witch hunt, or is allied with Michael Moore, or is Ted Kennedy’s long-lost, black-sheep love child.
RLM "Ted Kennedy’s long-lost, black-sheep love child." LOL
what you say is true ,we need some of that software the "good guys" use in the movies. You know you type in the "perps" name and it show EVERYBODY he knows and everybody they know ,on and on.Until you find the "big boss" .
Amazing amount of information to take in just following the ethically challenged these days .
I am plagued by the same high tech hackers that do their thing on the voting machines. I have just sent the following to Sen Boxer & Feinstein & others:
–
I will here be reporting yet another alarming abuse of federal powers. I have high tech types assigned to monitor my computer activates 24 X 7. I have violated no laws. I had set out to expose a major corporate – government fraud. The agents assigned to me are seriously character disordered. They like to flaunt their lack of regard for any citizens rights. Some of them much like to make their presence known by patterns of disrupting, blocking and general harassment. They appear to be of a criminal ilk. I am of the belief that our FBI is regularly offered as an option to prison to those convicted of some freelance high tech crimes.
The folks of which I am speaking have been with me for some years now. Their are limitations as to what can be done by them and that will be evident if I am able to get this particular message out.
You will not be able to do anything on my behalf. You will probably not even be able to acknowledge my message. Such is the state of our free nation today. Your office will, however be aware of the message. I have no idea of how prevalent these abuses are. Perhaps you have a better grasp of that.
