Capitol Hill police barred them from entering the room to continue what they called a consecration service. But in a bit of one-upsmanship, the three announced that they had let themselves in a day earlier, touching holy oil to the seats where Judge Alito, the senators, witnesses, Senate staffers and the press will sit, and praying for each of the 13 committee members by name.
“We did adequately apply oil to all the seats,” said the Rev. Rob Schenck, who identified himself as an evangelical Christian and as president of the National Clergy Council in Washington.
…
The three ministers insisted they weren’t taking sides in the Alito debate. “This is not a pro-Alito prayer,” insisted the Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition. With abortion, public prayer, gay marriage and right-to-life issues among those topping public debate, however, “God…is interested in what goes on” in the nomination hearing, Rev. Schenck said.
Wackos.
Not my term, mind you. That’s Jack Abramoff’s Republican partner (who’s also plead guilty to a host of charges) Mark Scanlon’s term for the “Christians” that the GOP has been playing for years. As revealed by his emails recently read at a congressional hearing. Thought this just might be a good time to remind the Christians out there (the real ones) how they’ve been used by the Republicans and BushCo for so long.

Amazing timing that’s for sure!
There seems to be an increasing number of posters here who refer to "God" or testimony from the bible, Paul aside, and I think they might really like to know that hey- you’ve been duped.
What a fraud all around. By the way I’m a christian and I personally would never trust Jack Abramoff or any of these other "crusaders" as far as I can throw ’em….
Michael Scanlon apparently is the leader of the new "whackos" as he says, to take over all their votes and minds to curry favor for the aristocracy…

Thanks, Doug. I’ll try to take care of it. Looks like the spammers have a new trick up their sleeve. Yeesh.
I just got through praying to God. He isn’t pleased. But it’s really just a dumb misunderstanding on the part of these clergymen.
I told God that several of His messengers on Earth had been anointing the chairs in the Supreme Court with oil in His name. He asked, "Is that Schenck and Mahoney again? They were praying to me last week and said something like, ‘Thou preparedst a table before me in the presence of mine enemies, and anointed it with oil, and my cup runneth over. Now the oil has run over onto the chairs. Do me a favor, will you, Mills? Tell those fools to get back to me."
A theocracy with a homeland "security" that reads personal mail, and where the IRS keeps political records about you (link here).
Reminds me of the Roman Empire where the top dog was a god.
Oil..eh. Wonder if it was black. Black Gold. If so we can see who sat in those oil covered chairs when they all get up, or will it all be soaked up by their black suits. Often have wondered when the bible says, do not harm the oil or the wine. What oil were they speaking of…food for my thoughts. The truth can’t even hold a candle to fiction.
I believe my God thinks we are all somewhat of a big joke and is biding time to handle those that use his/her name, to do their bidding. I believe my God knows what resides in the hearts of man and I believe there are very few in power that have hearts. M4
Then they should start taxing religious organizations.
The gov’t is not supposed to prefer one religion over another, is it? We need some Satanists to perform rituals and prayers at that hearing room. If Satanists were not allowed, the gov’t would be showing favoritism toward Christianity, which would violate the establishment clause. (This argument would hold for any non-Christian religion actually, but I think with any of Bush’s appointees, Satanism is the most appropriate one).
Dear Brad,
Thanks for your post above.
And thank you especially for distinguishing those who do the will of the LORD (e.g. clothing the naked, feeding the hungry, comforting the ill and housing the homeless) from the charlatans who think that the Holy Bible specifically says:
– Thou shalt not have an abortion.
– Thou shalt cut the taxes of the richest and take food from the poorest.
– Thou shalt spendest all thy time casing porn shops and publishing on thy website the license plate numbers of those who enter therein.
You know, Brad, I used to be a Christian Conservative. I was duped by the Hellfire and Damnation pastors in my church.
But then I realized what God (Yahweh) wanted us to do…
"If thou truly loves me, then feed my sheep."
I saw the light while in college in San Diego… and then promptly joined SD Urban Ministries.
Morons like Schenk and Maloney sure give us Christians a horrible name.
I’m thinking there should be a general gathering of spiritual leaders of ALL faiths in front of those doors, demanding their own time to perform their rituals. There has already been a precedence set by allowing Christians there, can’t bar other religions now or it’s discrimination!
Calling all Pagans, Wiccans, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Unitarian Universalists, etc etc! Gather your congregations, let’s meet in DC – we’ve got some BLESSIN to do!
BTW, how did these folks "let themselves in" the hearing rooms? Is it really that easy for people to gain access when no one is in there, to do whatever they want – maybe even, oh, I don’t know, let’s say, PLANT LISTENING DEVICES?
For Kestrel B.E.: Schenck and Maloney were escorted into the hearing room by Jeff Gannon, who has a key.
Maybe I shouldn’t use the word "escorted" where Gannon is concerned. Might get the N.S.A. upset.
#11 Right on! But do you think they would really install listening devices? Oh no, not the government shills…lol.
so after being denied entrance, they announced they had snuck in a day earlier anyway? did they follow that with a "nanny-nanny-boo-boo, stick your head in doo-doo?"

The black oil from X-Files maybe?

My thoughts exactly. With all the spying and "security" – screening everyone etc. – how the hell did they get into the chambers – hell that "oil" could have been anything – plague, smallpox, tuleremia or any other pathogen!
Holy oil! Holy shit! Yawn. Wake me up when you decide to try to do something for this nation.
As a gay male, I would have loved to have annointed those chairs with my own special lubricant oil.
