While a dozen Northern California counties consider going vote-by-mail in order to get themselves out of the ‘voting machines morass’ Riverside Co. decides to pay over $6M to upgrade their present Sequoia voting machines to newer machines. These ‘newer’ machines are federally qualified to 1990 standards and do not meet HAVA mandates for accessibility. Those of you who have responded to the Action Alert from VoteTrustUSA have sent 15,097 emails to the EAC along with 1870 letters demanding the ITA be made to do their job….

As part of the Northern California population, my husband, daughter and I started voting Absentee Ballet this last special election and plan to do it permanently.
It’s convenient and I feel safer for counting the vote. Just as a note, I have voted since I was 21 years old and never had a problem. I just walked in, told them my address and voted. I really was shocked to see on TV (not MSM, but Link, Freespeech, PBS etc) that other citizens had so many problems, ie, long lines, long waits, being insulted by checking a list of felons, demanding identification etc. It makes me sick. I wish people would yell and scream and protest this bullcrap.
OFF TOPIC – What is this crap regarding that former AG Ashcroft is a Lobbiest for Oracle and Choicepoint as of last October? Everyday, something else comes out about the stinking mess in DC and WH. How much does it take for americans to wake up and get mad??
I believe that these companies are involved in the technology for the NSA. Yuck.

The fundamental essence in voting theory, as regards incumbents, is accountability.

The theory is that if incumbents get voted out of office because of their corruption, and a better candidate replaces the incumbent, democracy has proven itself.

However we see a staggering degree of corruption and the party in power, the republicans, not having been held accountable.

When DeLay first came under fire, the republican majority in the House changed the rules to allow him to stay on if he was indicted. This caused a firestorm and so they backed off, flip flopped, and changed it back like it had been.

So the neoCon power brokers who are the leaders of the republican party, and who are under the guns of indictment or potential indictment, do not like the notion of accountability.

"Keep It Simple Stupid" is the principle being violated when "they all do it" is the yawner response to exposure to the principle of accountability.

The solution is simple: accountability is expressed and preserved when the majority party is voted out.

For those who want to explore the fundamental concept of accountability from the viewpoint of political scientists, I suggest the following example:

"I would argue that the capacity for sanction is essential to the concept of accountability, and that accountability without sanctions is indeed a diminished form of accountability." (link here, emphasis added).

Basically when a political structure does not have accountability it has a fatal disease. It is like not having antibodies in the human immune system.

In the case of a human, the person dies, and in the case of a political system, democracy dies.

Voting can be likened to the movement of antibodies to the scene of the disease and the removal of the harmful agents.

If the voting is impaired, then the body cannot heal itself.
