Personally I think it is undignified for anyone to wear a tee shirt with a slogan on it to the sotu address. If everyone was wearing tee shirts with slogans on them it would look like an eighth grade classroom. No matter who is president, there is a such a thing as dignified attire.
If Cindy had worn a black dress with veil, sat quietly with her eyes diverted from the president perhaps head turned away, she would have made more impact and a stronger statement.

Joan, Ed Schultz was present at the last three SOTU’s. He said there was a very noticable silence from the republican side of the aisle during Bush co’s speech. And that several times when Bush expected an applause, he got silence, wah, wah. I thought one of the biggest cheers came when they announced the Supreme Court Justices. BTW, did anyone see how fast LIEberman jumped up to applaude Bush? What an ass kisser. The video is at crooks and liars.
Gotta defend Nagin here. I’m sure there is no need to comment on the racist attitude of #29.
However, I feel it necessary, as a Louisiana white man, to note that Nagin was popular with both blacks and whites in NOLA; and was involved with trying to clean up the traditional corruption of the city. He was a successful businessman before election and was bringing a more business-like attitude to City Hall.
Katrina thrust him onto a bigger stage than he was used to, and he has apparantly forgotten that he will be there as long as he is mayor. His unfortunate phrase choices in 2 sentences of his MLK day speech overshadowed what was otherwise a fine speech. I assume that Nagin was merely having a good time at a holiday party and didn’t note that his words as mayor of NOLA will always be followed by the national press.
Visiting the city 4 days later, I noted the shops already had "Willie Nagin and the Chocolate Factory" and "Welcome to Chocolate City" T-shirts available.
I also note that the "2000 busses sitting flooded" was a figment of the Bush administration’s imagination, repeated so much by their echo chamber that many thought it was true.
Actually, there were 2 HUNDRED city-owned busses that did not get pressed into duty because the drivers were not accessable after the call to evacuate had gone out. Some had left with their families, phone service was out, and no one foresaw the need to evacuate the superdome.
200 busses would barely begin to evacuate the folks still stuck in the city.
And remember, many didn’t see the floods coming, thinking the storm had passed and the city had dodged a bullet. The trouble didn’t start till a day later.
