Our soldiers must follow the orders of their superiors and ultimately, the commander in chief. Our security depends on their unfailing committement to the chain of command.

I know you do not understand constitutional law regarding voting rights. We have no constitutional right to vote for president, however, we do have a right to vote for congress members.

I know you do not understand the significance of that.

We have a right to sue state actors pursuant to 42 USC 1983 this year but we did not have that right with the presidential election in '04. That is why the lawsuits have failed. There is no constitutional right for the people to vote for the US president. That is the plenary right of the state legislatures of the 50 states.

What branch of the service did you learn to salute in medium right? I would like to hear about your military service. HCOCDR was in Iraq. I don't know what his job was there. I believe what he says about what the troops are doing there in the villages (ordinary Americans are good people). I don't think he has personal knowledge about what is going on in the prisons under the watch of Cheney, Rumsfeld and the CIA. My nephew tells simular stories about his first tour there. On his second tour things have changed. The people are growing weary.

Some like to vent their frustration & share how appalled they are with the state of the country.

We can't win the war to get rid of Bush/Cheney & all the tragic changes they have made by laying in the trenches & whining.

Please get yourself to commit to DO at least one thing---besides moaning about it & cussing each other.

Come on---Democracy is a verb. Take action.

If the neocons are reading this--they're laughing because no one is DOING anything for them to worry about.

Nothing will change til we demand it over & over again, in public & loudly.

Remember, most of the people don't even KNOW most of this. They trust the evening news--they don't know it's the corporate, fake news.

The blame game is worse than doing nothing. The blame game is blaming the victim rather than the perpetrator.

The perpeTRAITORS are the republicans who have all the power of the presidency and leadership of all committees in congress, all subpoena power, and all oversite guidance and control.

As to whistleblowers, these republican chairmen have not held one oversight committee on whistleblower protection in twelve years until last week.

So lets blame the independents in the senate (one senator) for not stopping the majority republican party from greatly damaging the United States.

Or lets blame the democrats for the same reason ... even tho they are powerless.

And this Administration is REDUCING funding for OUR poor, while giving $7 billion in tax breaks to the wealthiest companies in history.. We have starving children in this country too, but you don't care about them, right? And this Administration is reducing funding for the troops that are over there dying for this ILLEGAL and UNJUSTIFIED war.. so when those troops get back, this Adminsitration is saying "go Cheney yourself", yet YOU (HOCDR), as a soldier, can support that? What a fucking moron you must be.. "Thank you sir, may I have another!"

The legal structure of our congress does not support a multi-party system, and is designed for a two party system. It is a winner take all affair.

This is not good, but it is reality.

Under the law of the House and Senate, "the Senate divides its tasks among 20 committees, 68 subcommittees, and 4 joint committees" ... "The chair of each committee and a majority of its members represent the majority party. The chair primarily controls a committee’s business" (link here).

Take an example where republicans win 30 seats, independents win 28 seats, greens win 29 seats, and democrats win 13 seats. We can now easily see that this will not work well.

The republicans with 30 seats end up as the majority party. Remember that the majority party and the majority are not the same thing in our system. The majority, in this example, is 70 votes (greens, indys, and dems), but the majority party is the republicans because they got those 30 seats.

Therefore, they get the committee chair on each and every committee, and they get the majority number of members in each and every committee of congress.

So, in our system, the majority of seats would be governed by the minority republican 30 seats.

Anyone see any way to improve this?

I do. The polls show that the body politic favors democrats in the upcoming election, and voting democrats into the majority is the public will.

We would have an easier time prevailing upon them to change the rules.

It should be pro rata based upon percentage of seats.

Committees should be distributed to all parties based upon percentage of seats in a pro rata configuration.

Otherwise, when independents, greens, democrats, and other parties fight each other the republicans always remain the majority party and therefore always control the congress.
