Three New Polls — Including Fox ‘News’ — All Show Bush Approval Ratings in the 30’s

(And so is the Republican Congress)

Share article:

Yesterday, Brit Hume and the “Fox All-Stars” were in denial about Bush’s dreadful poll numbers from the CBS survey. Now that Fox is out with their own poll, what excuse will poor Brit have to dream up now? (Aside from not even posting a link to their own brand-new poll on the front of their own website?)

By the way, one good point that Chris Matthews made yesterday (yeah, it can happen) is that he likes to check the internals of such polls to see how the Independents are polling. Thus, avoiding the over-weighting of Dems vs Reps or vice versa in any particular poll (as the Bush dead-enders had been complaining about the CBS survey which was weighted heavier with Dems).

Well, a very quick look at the internals of the following three polls, revealed that Independents are now even less enamored with Bush than are Dems! Go figure…

Because of a grave lack of time, we post Think Progress’ coverage of the three polls in its entirety here:

Following up on a dismal CBS News survey earlier this week, two new polls by Fox News and CNN/USA Today/Gallup bring more bad news for President Bush. From the Fox News poll:

39 percent of Americans approve of the job Bush is doing, only the second time Bush has fallen below 40 percent in Fox polling

81 percent believe Iraq is likely to end up in a civil war.

69 percent oppose allowing Dubai Ports World to manage U.S. ports.

From CNN/USA Today/Gallup:

38 percent approve of the job Bush is doing, a rating “mired near its record low” of 37 percent.

47 percent approve how he is handling terrorism, “down 7 points since early February and a record low.”

64 percent disapprove of Bush’s handling of Iraq, a record high.

52 percent do not find Bush “honest and trustworthy,” tying November’s worst-ever mark.

UPDATE: Quinnipac:

Only 36 percent of voters approve of the job President Bush is doing, while 58 percent disapprove, his worst approval rating in a Quinnipiac University national poll and down 9 points from his 45 – 48 percent approval rating one year ago.

A few additional numbers of note (we suggest you click through each poll to get still more)…

From Quinnipiac’s poll: Even the reddest of “red states” believe a warrant should be obtained before wiretapping, by a 51 to 46 margin. Overall, the numbers are 55 to 42 percent that the government should get court orders for this type of surveillance. And here the media has been repeating the BushCo line that the NSA eavesdropping is “a winning issue for the President”. What a shock. They’re both wrong again.

As to who should take Congress this November…

Quinnipiac: “By a 49 – 37 percent margin, voters want the Democrats to win control of Congress in this year’s House and Senate elections.”

CNN/USA Today/Gallup: “By 53% to 39%, registered voters say they lean toward supporting an unnamed Democratic candidate over an unnamed Republican in their district.”

FOX: “by a 14-percentage point margin voters think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this year’s election”

Oh, poor Brit…What will he do now?

I still can’t believe they are THAT high. THE worst president we have EVER had and there are still people who back him. Sad,sad very sad. But not totally unexpected in a country where people can name the judges on "American Idol" but can’t tell you what rights are enumerated in the First Amendment of the Constitution.

This is American electoral justice at work. It is extremely slow, but it gets there. And it is there.

Americans are a strange folk in some ways, but once they see thru a charade, the fool me once, your fault, and fool me twice, my fault mechanism sets in. And I mean sets in like concrete.

Only super diebold man can save the fascists now. But the upcoming election will be watched closer than any in our history.

Volunteer as poll watchers. Keep an eye on the criminal infested election officials this year.

The republican criminals must get their justice by being voted out of the majority. Then we deal with the democrats that are wannabe republicans.

Once all these criminals are gone, it would be very nice to get back to civil american politics again. I have had enough of criminology.

Colo. Teacher Punished for Bush Comment
    By Associated Press

AURORA, Colo. – About 150 high school students walked out of class to protest a decision to put a teacher on leave while they investigate remarks he made about President Bush in class, including that some people compare Bush to Adolf Hitler.

Although many individuals have spoofed the President to date no one has asked a fundamental question about George Bush – Is the man sane? Considering what he has done some probably will laugh at the question but the matter should be seriously considered.

As we all know many of the Bush family members have exhibited mental health problems – Prescription drug addiction, alcohol addiction, etc. His reported detachment from reality, obsession over Saddam, his black and white behavior, his arrogance, his repeated lying, his paranoia of the public and the press et al, are all indications of a very troubled mind. I am not a psychiatrist but would like to hear what mental health specialists would have to say in the matter.

I’ve been attempting to poll my feelings on the Fox website questions for months and have even written them about their "bogus polls". Try it – you cannot register your poll vote at their site. – amazing trickery going on there. And they call themselves "fair & unbiased"?? It’s about time that their bogus polls and their resistance to discussing what is the Truth and apparent to everyone in this country is outed for what it is – total propaganda and maybe even "payola" (remember that oldie?).
Wouldn’t surprise me to find that they’re being paid by the administration just like the $l.5 billion W’s been using to create his "image" as well as the money paid to "feed the journalists" by the Pentagon about the war…hmmmmm???? Brit Hume and his Bush cronies will soon be indicted just like all the rest or simply recognized as the laughing stock they’ve become. They suffer from the same DARVO Denial Syndrome as the Administration – someone bring in the medics soon!

EVERYONE I KNOW HAS BOYCOTTED THE BOGUS FOX NEWS AND INSTEAD WATCHES CNN!

    Camus,
"…to date no one has asked a fundamental question about George Bush – Is the man sane? …"
Actually, the guy filling in yesterday for Ed Schultz was dicussing that very thing with callers. And I’ve heard a psychologist or two weigh in on the subject as well.

Re that teacher in Colorado, I’ve heard parts of the tape of him addressing his class and his comments were fairly tame. As I recall, he said that some of bush’s comments in his SOTU speech were similar to comments made by hitler. He also makes it clear that he’s not asking his students to necessarily agree with him, but he wants them to think for themselves about issues.

An interesting take on the polls is found here in this story headlining at Raw Story

"Bush’s approval ratings remain stuck in the mid- to low 40s in two polls released Thursday"

    Mid 40"s? uh say what?

Perhaps Bush is insane but it doesn’t matter much. He’s not in charge anyway which is clearly indicated by this Dubai ports deal. He’s just the front man to take the blame for those that are really in control. Poor ole Shrubby. Gonna go down in history as THE worst president ever and he doesn’t even have a say in policy. I’m not shedding any tears over it.

Funny, isn’t it? When ONE poll comes out and some talking head TRIES to dismiss it (and failed to be convincing to anyone with a brain), the trolls (ala Ricky) come here and blather about "biased poll, fake poll, rigged poll, you guys are suckers!".. but when MORE polls are done, and by HIS FAVORITE NEWS OUTLET (Faux News), and AGREE with the previous poll (that he took a heaping dump on), they are no where to be found.

RICKY!!!! Come back!! come tell us how FOX and CNN and all the rest are making FAKE POLLS TOO.. just to hurt your wonderful Resident!

Bottom line.. Shrubby (and his neo-cons and lemming Repugs) is becomeing more and more disliked in this country.. not just by "the kook fringe like those here", but by an OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of the country. Looks like the "majority" that Ricky seems to think he enjoys is waking up to the lies and deceit, and they don’t like it.. not one bit. I’d guess MOST Amercians are kicking themselves and BEGGING for "no war but blowjobs in the White House" instead of the mess they made letting Cimpy steal 2 elections..

Keep in mind folks.. NOW that people understand how crappy Shrubby is, and start talking about who THEY voted for.. NOW is the time to let them know about our screwed up electronic voting systems, and complete lack of ability to verify counts, and easy of stealing elections. NOW is the time to get the masses moving and acting to protect their vote. Let people know that there NEVER WAS a "majority" for Shrubby, it was made to look like it by rigging the election.

I think we need to see about getting 2 things done across America. First is to get a Constitutional Amendment to relpeal the Electoral College. There is no need for it anymore, we need to go back to a concept of "full on Democracy".. Second, we need to get a Constitutional Amendment calling for PAPER BALLOTS AND HAND COUNTS. Letting machines do this TINY BIT OF WORK for us is STUPID, and not needed. We might like being a lazy nation, but let’s stop being lazy about our Democracy that protects us and lets us be a lazy nation.

Savanster: We on the internet, have to keep exit polls of upcoming elections in the limelight, and contrast them with the final count. Including BradBlog, who doesn’t have to be told this. We should start publicizing pre-election polls widely, like the one where Casey is ahead of Santorum by double-digits. So when Santorum wins 51%-49%, we won’t be waiting a year to scream about it.

Joan, I listen to Ed Schultz everyday, and I heard Jay talking of this yesterday. I seriously think Bush is losing his mind. He has that deer in the head lights look way to often. He has absolutely no clue on how to relate to the average American, and its becoming more and more evident that he indeed is just a sock puppet front man for the PNAC. I think he says things sometimes that he has no intention of saying and they just slip out, so perhaps he has multiple personality issues. In any case, if he is indeed sufferng, it sure as hell is not a pleasant thought.

    Ricky, Paul, and HDOCDR

Has anyone grasped what Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Cal) said on C-SPAN during Hamas hearings?

I was listening about an hour ago.

The House committee is seemingly cutting off funds to Hamas and making strong denunciations, especially republicans.

He said that Hamas issued a press report, recently, praising the Dubai government, the one The Dick and The Bush want to take over up to 21 US ports, for giving Hamas big sums of money.

Yes, the UAE buddies of Bush, are big contributors to the terrorist Hamas organization.

And the UAE did not deny nor denounce Hamas for its press release.

I wonder if Osama bin Laden is hiding out in the UAE and Bush hasn’t read that newspaper yet?

How many lives did Katrina take – 1,300?
They were not prepared to deal with an enormous disaster – Katrina = 1,300 dead.
How many bodies showed up at the Baghdad morgue in just one week – 1,300?
We can’t handle a large natural disaster in our own country w/ 1,300 lives lost.
In one week of violence in Baghdad alone = 1,300 bodies. But its not a civil war yet?

    Like anyone really knows?

Thousands of children and adults are missing.

I wonder sometimes when we accept official results like how many died and how many are still missing when the government knew nothing and had to be told everything.

And they only hear what they want to hear.

I fear that the death numbers are great, the numbers of missing are great, and the number of folks who lost homes, jobs, and city are far greater than Bush The Liar and The Dick are willing to admit and publish.

Just remember that it was the greatest natural American disaster and think about it …

Still waiting on the trolls to come out and accuse -every- poll of being cooked since they aren’t supporting their criminal-in-chief. I mean, the trolls keep touting how they have a "clear majority" and all, so clearly the polls are lying.. just like they did in the 2004 election. Seems polls only tell the truth when it’s good news for them, but lie otherwise..

Oh.. wait! .. damn.. there’s a word for that!.. erm.. denibble? dinaliable?? OH.. DENIAL.. yeah, that’s it..

Thanks for your insight. I don’t know if I can get Democracy Now. Let us all know how. I agree that commercial-free (aka payola free) news is the way to go.

    To: Savanster
Yep, the only way to vote again is via hand counted paper ballot since our entire system has been compromised and undoubtedly will continue to be. Thanks to Bev Harris, her dedication to persuit of this travesty of justice, the Hursti Harri hack in Leon County, Fl, etc. I find it amazing that we go to such lengths (not to mention unbelievable expense!) to ensure safe and fair elections in Iraq and do not extend this same degree of honesty to our citizens. Hand counting will take time but we can certainly wait for Truth versus having officials we clearly did not want. The premise that nothing can be constructed on an compromised foundation is certainly being brought to fruition as we watch this corrupt administration crumble.

BTW, What ever happened to the accepted integrity and veracity of "exit polls" which clearly had Kerry ahead in 04? The electoral college is an antiquated system which is functionally obsolete and has to go. That, along with campaign finance reform and we may be able to have elections which finally have integrity and mean something??!!

ROZ: Democracy NOW! is on DISH satellite on 9410-LINK-TV @ 6pm every week day, and 9415-FSTV @ 7pm every week day. And all their shows are the stuff we always talk about, it’s the real news. And it’s no coincidence, either channel has no commercials, no corporate money, no government money, and no money from DISH.

I’m keeping a rolling commentary on BradBlog of the stuff I’m watching. Last night I saw Noam Chomsky: "Manufactured Consent". I recently saw "Weapons of Mass Deception", and a special on "Corporate Christ", how the religious wrong is selling Jesus for $$$.

YOU JUST DON’T SEE THIS STUFF ANYWHERE ON TV EXCEPT LINK-TV & FSTV!!!

I’m out of my mind, watching these 2 channels constantly.

Everything we always talk about, was touched upon by Noam Chomsky’s "Manufacturing Consent"…I was absolutely floored after I watched it. Why isn’t this on regular TV? Watch "Manufacturing Consent" and it’s all clear.

I will guarantee you this: If you start watching LINK-TV & FSTV, you cannot stop. I haven’t even been watching any other channels except for these 2, since I discovered them. You guys hate so much…Never can you guys say one single nice thing. I would never want a hater in any office… It seems like hate is all about the Democratic Party. I use to vote Democrat until I seen Bill Clinton’s types of action he was willing to do instead the military action from the three terrorists attacks on us on his watch..
    Polls:
Has anybody counted how many states went for Bush in both elections? Do you guys really think that the Office of the President should be won on just California and New York? I do not.
    As for Fox News…
It is so rare to see the conservative veiws on CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, etc…
I loved one of many stories that were played over and over about his military service and so they forged the forms so they could bash him right before the elections. Yeah, they are really trustworthy.

I like Fox News. They DO show both sides… I just think you guys only want your veiws out there and no one elses. And just hearing other point of veiws aggrevate you guys so much that you must ATTACK the others and do it personally! So stay tuned to CNN/MSNBC etc.. they steadily bash Mr. Bush for ANYTHING and they even create possible charges against Bush never providing ANY proof. It will greatly feed that anger that aches in your bellies.

    I Love you all,
    BJL
