Okay, not really Diebold programmers. Some of the best actually! My old friend Ronny Brodin has worked his magic and I think the new software here — that will allow us some really exciting new things soon — is working pretty well so far.
Nonetheless, there’s a bunch of stuff that will need tweaking and I thank you for your patience as we work out the kinks.
As mentioned, this is likely the worst possible time for this, but we’ve had no choice other than to expedite this long-planned move since the hack/spam attacks have gotten so bad, bringing the whole site down several times a day.
You’ll notice some new stuff already. Amongst them, a new “PRINT THIS” option which will also be handy for those who have trouble reading our yellow-on-green color scheme since it’s straight black-on-white instead!
More soon on the new features we’ll be able to put in place before long! But as it’s 4:45am and I’ve only slept about 3 or 4 hours over each of the last 4 or 5 days, I’m gonna knock off and hope all is well when I wake up to begin tweaking some more of the still-existing “glitches”…Leave comments here if you spot any problems, please, and I’ll try to handle them in the morning!
Thanks for all of your support, patience, and understanding… Brad
===============
For those stopping by for our coverage of the questionable Francine Busby/Brian Bilbray U.S. House special run-off election to replace the disgraced “Duke” Cunningham last Tuesday, here’s the key articles so far:

Your Back!, Nice look
Thanks Brad for the black and white print feature. I was one of those, you’ll recall, who had trouble reading the yellow on green format. I also like the “Preview” feature.
Am I moderated yet?
Brad
Links do not work properly. For example, the target=”_blank” feature does not work. It is a neat feature because it opens up a new window automatically, and one does not loose the original page.
Also, the preview does not record changes all the time.
also, when I try to link the new Selective Service (“draft”) bill, which link is:
http://www.govtrack.us/congress...bill=h109-4752
None of it, or any text after it, shows up if I use the link button, feature, or whatever.
PS
I went back to some older posts and it does the same thing … removes the target=”_blank” statement from any link.
Brad
I noticed a sequencing anamoly too. One of my posts https://bradblog.com/?p=2943#comment-80366 ended up earlier than the post I was quoting.
I was reading post #14 of Tony Cambece, which was numbered as such, expecting mine to be at least #15.
Instead, his showed up as #15 and mine showed up as #14.
Notice that the text I was mentioning, that he was talking about valueable real estate, is in the post following mine.
When I posted his was already up … yet mine showed up ahead of his!
BTW: the new preview feature is better, because one does not have to wait for the cgi to process it. Good!
Hi, Brad,
I agree with Dredd about the tags that have been eliminated. This new preview feature is lovely, but the entire new setup will take some getting used to! And target=”_blank” is a sine qua non for us who are severely speed-challenged!! (Of course, as Winter Patriot reminded me once, one can always right-click and select “Open in new window.”)
Anyway, GET SOME SLEEP. The sleep of the just.
Maybe someone could explain this crap to us older “retarded” people
Hey Dredd, go down and read my link in the’Daily Voting News’ For June 10, 2006, This is how they have been funneling cash into the Republican Party election coffers IMO
Oops, cash = taxpayer dollars
I just made a comment, entered the numbers and hit submit – where did it go?
Well that one worked!
How do I link my email back to my name?
I miss the community assistant. It was sure helpfull for those of us who know nothing about HTML coding. I used for posting links elsewhere as well as here. A new learning curve for the buttons I guess. I\’ll wait until the bugs are out \’till I mess up the blog trying! LOL
Just testing the new features. Live preview is pretty neat. Here’s a link: [ link ]

Go fuck yourselfI disagree.Nice job.
FWIW: I’ve always found the green background and yellow type hard to read.
It did remove my “HR” tags though, which is disappointing.
OT: The domain name http://www.AntiCoulter.com is not being used. Someone should set this up. 🙂
Oooooh, I like that! Automatic links and emoticons. Very nice.
I can’t post with IE.. and netscape can’t connect? (well, tried posting with italics and “submit” gives me a white page with partial text, then comes back here without having posted the post?).
something is hosed here.. it would seem..
Now it quietly ate a different post? hmmmm…
Second time now my comment didn’t post – my first comment here didn’t post, first comment at another thread didn’t post, now after being gone for a while my first comment here didn’t post. This is my second attempt in this session.
Pages seem to load faster, and comments (when they post) are much faster. I like that!
Whether my comments go up or not, and where in the thread they will end up, seems to be an open question…. and the authentication code thing rejects me even when I did it correctly sometimes too. Is this a Mac/PC thing, or just a fussy software thing?
We could use a little tutorial page, or link, I think. Those of us without our own web pages aren\’t every hip to the lingo on these buttons.
I lost several posts also … make a backup copy in notepad or other text editor … ????
Odd.. might have been a problem with my browser.. went to close mail and the whole thing came down.. and now it’s letting me in with Netscape..
Not sure about if we’re still losing posts though, and if will work or not
Might be something to do with multi-lined posts? or perhas a slash in front of sigh (one that died..) like /sigh
we’ll see with this one 😀
Well, that one sent, the only thing I’m missing from a dead post now is *grin*
Hmm.. perhaps Brad is making tweaks and not telling us?
If this posts, then all the types I was having problems with are gone (though, I’m on Netscape now, not IE.)..
Oh … another thing … sometimes the o (oh) can look like 0 (zero) in the message ID graphic (spam fighter), so when there is doubt get another ID with the
[newID]button ……
lets see if this will post…Agh!
Agh… agh.
Okay, Brad, if you’re not publishing my email address now, which will slow the attempts to attack my machine, and lower spam problems, I’m going to login with my regular email from now on.
Is it okay to put web pages you’d like others to visit, even though they’re not your own? Or is that not done?
Thanks for the input guys. Yes, we’re trying to fix/tweak in the background. So keep your input coming.
Will try to create a “Commenting Tips” page if needed, though I prefer to try and clean things up here so that no brain is necessary to figure everything out (will make it easier on the wingnuts anyway 😉
Thanks again for the both input and continued patience as we do all of this on the fly (cuz we didn’t have enough to do alrady 🙂
The NOAA has that storm heading right at me, we had a couple of pretty strong bands go through already, and it isn\’t even close yet, if the electricity goes out, we\’ll see all of you in a couple of days or so
Testing this link
Well, crap.. 2 posts eaten and one wasn’t anything special..
Dredd, there’s a . in the middle of zeros.. and it looks like you might need to have capital letters for the auth. stuff.. lower case didn’t let the last post go, and there was nothing else that looked bad..
Still got lots of bugs to tweak, Brad 😀
Testing lowercase auth codes..
well, lower case worked.. perhaps it’s just that the server is having code changes that’s killing stuff *shrug*..
Anywho..
The “Submit Button” below the graphic must be hit. As opposed to the Submit button just below the text box (if you happen to be able to see it). We’ll straighten then out. If you hit that wrong button, it seems that it may eat the text 🙁
This is a test. Hope all is working just fine. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/2006...hdA–
Where, oh where, are the smilies? Anyone??
Peg, use the regular internet type things.. : D for big grin, : P for toungue out, etc etc.. ; ) for wink..
😀 😛 😉
Well, it failed with 2 chars in the test, worked with all numbers.. *shrug*
Seems the . in the zero isn’t always there.. Brad, any way to fix that? to make sure zero is distinguishable from O (capital o)?
Note that the letters are A thru F, so if you see \
Whoa – getting weirder – that #45 is only half of what I wrote, when I posted it didn’t go through, I got a message by the code thingy – entered the new code and got half a post. The “/” character was not in my text.
Note the “0” in the code is always zero. The letters are only A thru F.
heh.. values for validation are Hex.. makes sense… kinda..
The validation thing is way cranky. 8)
But does this mean we will stop having the cruel spam filter booting out our greatest literary masterpieces?
And, if I quote Bluebear 2, will it look dazzling when it posts? 😛
And, ya know, if the Ferengi had never come down and bred with humans, we wouldn’t have to go through all this anti-spam malarky.
🙁
🙁 🙂
Where\’d the preview window go??? Wow, being here while Brad\’s tinkering is SPOOKY!
Help! George Bush and Dick Cheney are hunting me down! I’m not ready for Quayle hunting at this time!
And what’s with the back slash every time I type an apostrophe? Eek!!! :O
Help! Ann Coulter ran out of milk!
‘auto apostrophe’
was givin me three backslashes’
seems to work now
let the socialist propaganda commence
What I had here was too weird for the software, I guess.
How about this?

BRAD
Making links is suddenly not happening, and does it have to be MY website with my screen name?
Messy…
Cant seem to post?
What a day this has been
What a rare mood I’m in
It’s almost like being in love
The music of life seems to be
Like a bell that is ringing for me
Help I’m losing it!

I keep getting the “Invalid entry, try again message and nothing posts – also the comment edit box is emptied each time. I’ve double checked my code entries and they are correct, it seems to take 2 tries to get it to post. I’ve started copying my post before I send it so I can paste it back in the second time.
Ah, modern technology – Brad don’t pull all of your hair out ok?
That one – #63 – took 2 tries also. “No valid entry, Try again”
Now that one went first try.
Hang in there with me guys.
We’ll still be working on this over the next several days until we get everything sorted out until it’s 100% (or close enough for Board of Election work).
Much to do…much to do (and much to report! If I could just get to it all! Urgh…)
Brad Blog is still under attack I suppose … plus no 🙂 smiley face lib any more 🙁
And it is much slower than usual it seems …
I noticed that archived posts that have old style links with
target="_blank"or even some with question marks in the URL areHOSED… (a programmer term which in canadian means buggered up, and it election terms means a little glitchy thingy).I was told, when I pressed submit, that I had lost the election 51% to 49% …
Dredd said: “”These are times that test a blog’s trolls” (Alfred E. Blogman).”
LOL 🙂
Test
That didn’t work – putting my email address in the “website” box.
Upgrades are always nice. 🙂
I’ll try this again. A few hours ago I got a 404-error when I clicked Submit and just now I got this irritating message:
Gotta love that automatic Comment Preview feature though.
Hey, what’s the difference between an ABBR and an ACRONYM? How about bold and strong? And what about italic and emphasised text? I guess multiple-choice can’t be bad.
Hi! Where are you getting your BradBlog smilies? Just askin’…
It Be Me . . .
Use the keys you would use in an email.
(Remove the space between the colon and the following letter in these examples)
: ) = 🙂
; ) = 😉
: ( = 🙁
: 0 = :0
etc.
: O = :O
Capital “O” – not zero
ok – forget that one!
I forwarded the information found on Brad Blog concerning the Busby/Bilbray race, along with a Brad Blog link to Francine Busby, who I know personally, (we were candidates together in ’04, when I ran against Darell Issa in the CA 49th, as the Dem nomineee, and Francince ran against the Dukestir in the neighboring CA 50 CD. In a carefully worded statement Francinne replied:
Concession and Recount
Many of you have called to express your interest in a recount.
On election night and for several days following the election, observers from both parties from Washington D.C as well as local monitors have been carefully observing the counting of ballots.
While there were a few reports of malfunctioning machines, there was not widespread reporting of problems on election day. All absentee, provisional and damaged ballots were accounted for and are continuing to being counted.
I conceded as part of my statement following election night because the margin of difference was beyond the amount to trigger an automatic recount. Should the Secretary of State find reason to certify me as the winner, I would be declared the winner despite my original concession statement.
Thought we all wanted to win this race, we can be proud of the fact the we garnered over 45% of the vote despite $5 million in relentless negative assaults and kept Bilbray under 50% in a district that should have been theirs for free. This was a huge victory in itself. With your continued support, we will keep up the pressure through November.

Dr. Mike Byron: Any comments on the #78 link???
Is “preview” gone???
PREVIEW is visible just below the the comment input box, Dan. It’s preview LIVE as you type your note!
in response to #78
Sounds pretty weak to me. I think Busby, despite the marginal difference, should take a stand and investigate the vote anyway. If there is a discrepancy, then let it be found _NOW_ instead of waiting until next time. Beat it into the ground and then beat into the ground again. This is not the time to roll over and just accept what you are given. I am sick of that attitude. If she is going to represent the people and the people are calling for a recount, then demand a recount.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me comes to mind.
Always challenge authority. Always challenge the people above you. Just because someone is in a position of power does not mean that they know better (see President Bush). Everyone is prone to mistakes, and no one is incapable of lieing or cheating. Stand up, speak out and always always always demand truth. That is my message to Busby.
I want her in office just as bad as everyone else. This country needs some leadership, some heroes or at least something to be proud of.
