Bush Destroys still more of the Environment

The Timber Lobby Rejoices, of course!

Share article:

“Our actions today advance the Bush administration’s commitment to cooperative conserving roadless areas,” Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman said in announcing the plan in the Idaho Capitol Rotunda.

It almost sounds as if she’s protecting the environment, doesn’t it?

But if you look closer at the sentence, you’ll find…that it makes no sense whatsoever. Except in as much as it’s meant to sound like she’s protecting something.

Actually, what she’s doing is giving up Federal Protection of much of our (previously) unspoiled precious National Forests so that Logging Companies can build roads in them to log some more! Cool, huh? George W. Bush is one great “President”! Let’s have some more!

The whole story is here…January 20th, 2005 cannot come around quick enough.

I hear ya. I signed the petition to Bush concerning the use of protected lands and sent it to everyone I could think of. ~shakes head~ Fat lot of good it did. There’s a line that goes something like "Only when the ocean is polluted, the last animal dies, and the last tree is paved over, will people realize that they can’t eat money."

You environment whacko’s are incredible. These loggers make a living in the logging industry. Do you guys want jobs or do not want jobs? Will you blaim Bush for loss of jobs? Answer – yes. Do you want furniture made by wood or made by oil/plastic? Do you really think that they do not replace trees? They are they do is destroy? Do you really think that our National forests should be 100% preserved? Only to look at and perhaps camp in?

Well, Teddy Roosevelt apparently did. I’ll side with him, instead of you, in this case.

There are other jobs, by your standards, you ought to be supporting. I’d think you’d want to legalize drugs for instance, since imagine how many jobs it’ll supply!

Jobs can be replaced. The dwindling resources of our earth cannot. Not always. And not in the case of previously unspoiled forests.

Yes, I’d love to camping in them. And do! When such places can be found!

FDR did great things for the environment And creating jobs. Why not follow That example? Do I really think they don’t replace trees? Yes. I know that in many cases they don’t. I believe that the mining industry is far worse when it comes to this topic, although it may be that because PA is such a large mining state that I just see it more often here. In any case, I have personally seen about 15 sites that were once used for either logging or mining that have Not complied with the ‘restoration’ legislation already in place. Their loophole… as long as one piece of their equipment is still on site, they don’t have to replace a thing. Many such companies obviously find it cheaper to just leave a piece of equipment on the site. Knowing all of this doesn’t make me an environment ‘wacko’. It makes me an aware and outraged citizen. I happen to think that treating limited resources as if they are Unlimited is stupid (Especially when it comes to something as vital as say the air we all breathe), and when I don’t see people complying with the environmental laws already in place, it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that they’ll change their tune when it comes to land that has been protected for years.

Yeah, you know if it’s not clean air, us "whackos" are after clean water. Shame on us for wanting to have a world to leave to our children and their children. As for jobs – do you really believe that Bush is into logging and mining to give Americans jobs????? It wouldn’t happen to have anything to do with making the businesses richer now would it?? Or the fact that those businesses support his campaign? His favourite people you know – the haves and the have mores.

What do you think those loggers are out there doing? Taking down the trees and leaving saplings behind them? Do you have any idea how long it takes a tree to grow to the size of the trees they are chopping down by the thousands. It takes one oak tree alone 50 years to reach maturity and start producing acorns. 50 years. How long does it take one logging company to destroy 50 trees? Not 50 years, I can tell you.

Yes, I would rather be camping in those trees. I would rather have the clean environment. There are plenty of other ways to create jobs in America rather than raping the land. While there are many, many things that we can use wood for, I believe that there are more responsible ways to do logging instead of the mass destruction of protected lands.

FDR created the Conservation Corp. This organization was created to take care of protected lands. It created thousands of jobs and cared for our lands. It put people to work repairing the roads, building observation decks in the parks, planting both along the road sides and other places and many other things that Promoted the environment instead of destroying it. That was a vision! That was productive! That is what we can do if we look for alternatives.

The Conservation Corp has touched so many Federal, State and Local parks you would be amazed. Our local park here has had work done by the Corp. Damn them for wanting to protect our natural resources. They should go out and get real jobs!

Clean air, clean water, wild life, camp sites, homes for animals, what could those possibly do for us? They will ensure a healthy world for generations to come. So if supporting all that makes me a whacko, then I am a whacko. So be it.

I support the environment – plant the Bushes back in Texas. – bumper sticker

Can’t find out where to get the "can’t eat money" bumper sticker. Wasted almost 2 hours online. Anyone know?
