previous facility owned by same people closed for procedures practiced by 'unlicensed personnel.'

From CBS 4 based in Miami:

Hialeah Police Homicide Detectives are investigating the gruesome discovery of a dead baby’s body inside of an abortion clinic but conflicting stories may prove there's more to the discovery than meets the eye.

The body was found at “A Gynecologists Diagnostic Center,” 3671 West 16th Avenue in Hialeah...

The story goes on to indicate that a woman whose identity is not public arrived last Thursday at the clinic 22 weeks pregnant. She was seeking an abortion.

The woman gave birth at the clinic. An unidentified caller, possibly a clinic worker, notified police that the baby was born alive.

The police came once and did not find a body. Then they were called to the scene a second time, apparently Friday night --- July 28th --- and they discovered a dead baby in a biohazard bag. The body they found was 12 inches long and weighed between 2 and 3 pounds.

The baby, police believe, was born prematurely, and at the moment police aren't sure how the child died.

This link will take you to a video from CBS 4 in Miami detailing the clinic's closing. This is a link to an article that accompanied the video, and in that article we find the following:

"In 24 years in law enforcement, I have never seen a case like this," said Hialeah Detective Tony Rodriguez, the lead investigator.

Detectives believe the abortion clinic tampered with the evidence. The fetus was reportedly 12 inches long and weighed 2-3 pounds.

Hialeah Police PIO, Frank Gonzalez, believe the baby was born premature and is unsure how the baby died.

The clinic's doors have been closed while the investigation continues...

In January of 2005, the following was published in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Ft. Lauderdale:

MIRAMAR

Judge asked to revoke abortion clinic's license

State health regulators on Wednesday asked an administrative judge to revoke the medical license of a Miramar abortion clinic, saying an unlicensed doctor and another unlicensed employee performed abortions.

A Gyn of Miramar let Robelto Osborne of Miami terminate pregnancies even after he lost his medical license in August, the Agency for Health Care Administration said in its complaint. Osborne's license had been revoked for mishandling a patient with a perforated uterus, state documents show.

After abortions by unlicensed personnel, clinic patients had complications --- including incomplete fetal removal --- that required further treatment, the agency's complaint said. Witnesses also reported that non-physicians performed other medical procedures, the complaint said.

A woman who answered the phone at A Gyn. said the clinic would contest the agency's action, but she declined to elaborate or give her name. The top officers of A Gyn, President Siomara Senises of Davie and Vice President Belkis Gonzalez of Miramar, also run two other abortion clinics in Hialeah, state records show...

A Gyn. of Miramar is now an inactive corporation in the Florida Division of Corporations database.

Further examination of the Florida Division of Corporations information reveals some things about A Gynecologist's Diagnostic Center's owners that might raise a few eyebrows.

All the following have two women's names in common, Siomara Senises and Belkis Gonzalez. These are all listed as for-profit organizations:

A Gyn. of Hialeah, Inc.
A Gyn. of Miramar, Inc.
A Gyn. Diagnostic Center, Inc.

In the same database, Belkis Gonzalez is a registered agent for the following:

B & C MEDICAL, INC.
ICHA SEAFOOD, INC.

Someone using the names "Belkys Gonzalez" and "Belquis Gonzalez" is also a registered agent for 6 other businesses. None of them appear to have any relationship to healthcare.

Siomara Senises is a registered agent for the following:

A Woman's Care, Inc.
Cibao Auto, Inc. (inactive)

The name of a licensed medical professional showed up only a few times in these records --- in documents available through the Corporations database, a Dr. Frantz Bazile is listed as an officer for one of the "A Gyn." entities.

A look at another Florida state database lobbed a grenade into the middle of this story:

Belkis Jerez-Gonzalez

The source in question was the Florida Corrections database, and the result was for a white woman, approximately 39-40 years of age, named Belkis Gonzalez, on 3 years probation for felony aggravated battery on a pregnant victim.

Was the woman who was president of the Hialeah clinic on probation for assaulting a pregnant woman? If so, was that 'assault' one of the procedures performed by "unlicensed personnel?"

After the request to close the Miramar clinic in 2005, a request that appears to have been granted, why was any other healthcare service owned and operated by Ms. Senises or Ms. Gonzalez still allowed to keep its doors open?

It is beginning to look like the State of Florida, in this instance, completely dropped the ball in policing the safety of women seeking safe, affordable health care.
