In other good news, Amy Goodman, at Democracy Now, is reporting that Bob Ney will not seek reelection, probably because of his ties to the Jack Abrahmoff scandal.

For Eric: Thanks for the heads-up from Amy Goodman about Bob Ney. I'd say it's a good news/bad news deal.

Good news: One fewer sleazebag will occupy a seat in Congress.

Bad news: The Abramoff scandal will get less attention in the press as we approach Election Day, all things being equal.

Bad news: Election fraud and HAVA will not be issues in the race for Ney's seat, as they would have been with him on the ballot.

Karl Rove probably insisted that Ney step down, in order to avoid Abramoff, and election issues, as much as possible. I can hear the conversation now: "We aren't going to support you, Bob. You might as well step aside now for the good of the party. This is what the president wants."

I'd say they're given politely at first, Joan. If the party of the second part balks, then Rove brings out the heavy artillery...destroyed reputations, false rumors, Machiavellian dirty tricks, the whole nine yards. I don't think DeLay stepped down of his own accord, for example; I think he was warned that if he stayed put, the White House would cooperate fully with both prosecutors. If he stepped down, they'd try to help him.

Ney's candidacy was going to be a headache for the party nationwide, same as DeLay's would have been. Worse, actually, because Ney is tied to the Ohio voting scandals via HAVA and his personal friendships.

Good points, mainly, RLM, but I believe that both election fraud and HAVA can not only be issues, they can be used as clubs, Ney or no Ney. His surrogate repug will be continuously in jeopardy of hammering by allusion, if the Dems have any sense and want to actually fight. and that's a huge if, for some reason I'd really like to be privy to. Strange days indeed...

Mary was so cute on that show. My baby sitter use put me on her lap and to stay up and watch on Saturday nights and she was even cuter.

I heard a well known Psychic say the Bush administration will be coming down in the next day controlled demolition style without being hit by a plane. I don't know too many hetero/straight guys who would be into doing "gay hour" radio shows, do you? LOL. I mean really. Is this another case of Denial? Well, the length of time Brad and Desi have supposedly been together is moot. There are countless gay and bisexual guys---who don't seem like the in-closet type to others either---in our society who are married to (or with) a woman. These guys knew deep down (but denied it to themself) before they got married that they were gay or bisexual, but decided to go forward with the marriage or "straight relationship" anyway because it was expected of them, due to societal pressure, pressure from family or society's negative view of gay people. It's part of the reason our divorce rather is over 50% in this country. Many married guys decide to stop living a lie and end their hetero marriage or their perceived "straight relationship" because they are not happy pretending to be something that they are not or straight/heterosexual. Some (many?) of these married guys mess around with gay guys on the side for sex. According to my gay son, their sex ads on the internet read: "Married, must be discreet...looking to meet a guy for hot sex." And he said some of them don't even have safer sex according to their ads! He said he hopes these guys are not going back home and having sex with their wife after having unsafe sex with others.

Brad could be bisexual. As my psychologist friend says, "most people are probably bisexual if they were honest about their feelings and their attractions and sexual interests."

One's sexuality is the one thing that many (most?) people are going to be the most closeted about.

No, I don't know too many, but I suspect there are quite a few straight people out there who would be into supporting the gay/lesbian cause by doing a show like that, why not? And I guess Brad is one. He's a nice guy & not a homophobe!
I imagine that you & your son have unfortunately run into your share of homophobes, but we are not all like that, as I'm sure you know. Some of us think that gay people should have the same rights as any other American & deserve to be treated with the same respect.

God knows, we have a ways to go in this country before we get there, but hopefully we WILL get there!!

So, no, I don't think Brad's gay. I don't think he's bi either, although I've always thought of bi people as kind of the human embodiment of the adage "waste not, want not!" Kind of a variation on the Woody Allen viewpoint.
