‘Daily Voting News’ For August 18, 2006

A recount was done in Georgia and, guess what? The results on the Diebold TS machines were the same the second time they were run-off as the first. It goes to show that computer memory does not change all by itself. That is all it proves because no one knows that these were really the people’s votes; only the machines. / The ACLU filed a lawsuit in Missouri against the state’s VoterID law. / Was the ESI/Cuyahoga Co. report just a sham to make the voter verified paper audit trail printers look as bad as possible? If so, some seem to believe that. …

John, I think your link about the bipartisan effort to clarify recount rules (“NRSC, DSCC File Joint FEC Inquiry On Recounts”) is quite interesting.

Seems to be a sign of sanity IMO.

Is this a voting machine before me,
Democracy by my hand? Come, let me use
      Thee.
Democracy I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.
Art thou not, our forefathers vision?
To feeling as to sight? Or art thou but
A figment of our imagination, a false creation
Proceeding from the globally warmed brain?
Democracy I see thee yet, in form as palable
As that upon which now I vote.
This administration hast told me the way that I should vote,
And upon which non-papered trailed instrument
      I was to use.
Mine eyes are not fooled nor are the other senses
Or for all the propaganda, I see democracy still.
But with the youth of our nation dying for a lie,
Which was not so before. Tis this administration.
With its bloody business which informs
Thus to mine eyes. Now o’er one half-world
Democracy seems dead, our wicked administration abuse
      Our private lives. Cheneycraft celebrates
      Machiavellian offerings, and withered murder,
With its shock and awe in Rumsfeld’s clothing
Whose Patriot Act their watch, thus with a stealthy
      Pace,
With tyranny’s ravishing strides, towards their
      design
I must vote. With a sure and verifiable method,
That speaks of my, and all the others’, voices,
      Without fear of our whereabout.
We must vote out the present horror of our time,
Which now invades it. Whiles we wait, tyranny
      lives.
Vote out the administration whose deeds too cold
      breath gives.
I vote, and I am done. The election invites thee,
Hear it not voters, for it is a knell
That summons Democracy to heaven, or to hell.
