What with all the talk of the disaster that is Diebold, Inc., other Voting Machine Companies such as ES&S and Sequoia have gotten a far too easy ride over the past several months. The easiest ride of all, however — of the big four democracy-hating American Voting Machine Companies — has gone to Hart InterCivic, which deserves no such benefit of the doubt.
So to be clear: Hart InterCivic voting systems suck just as much as the others.
Washington Post today has details on how their machines are sucking in the hotly contested U.S. Senate race in Virginia between George Allen and “James H. ‘Jim'”
The “good news” reported in the article: “Hart InterCivic officials yesterday said they hoped to correct the problem by next fall.”
And speaking of Hart Intercivic, this just in from San Mateo County in California:

Send the junk-box,.. black-box vote counting machines back to the vendors. If they can not meet minimal standards of performance,.. return ship them back to the manufacturer and refund the money in totality. The American taxpayer should not foot the bill for this bogus electro-gizmo crap. Hand count the vote,.. demand audit-ability of the vote count,.. insist on transparency of the process and observable ethical conduct of election administrators.

If paper ballots are in error they have to be reprinted.
If the computer is wrong it should be fixed or, better yet replaced, before the election or the court should place a restraint on it’s being used at all.
This needs to be challenged now in the courts. We can’t wait for Democracy.

What ever happened to the days of pull a lever, which moves a gear that increase a counter? Do we really need optical scanner and touchscreens? What was wrong with the old mechanical means of voting? I remember when I was young and would watch the vote count at the precienct across the street. Two people would go to each machine and check the dials. Someone else would add up the totals of the machines (on paper) and then call the results in to City Hall. City Hall would then total the numbers (on paper) and send the results to the County. Someone at the County would total the numbers (on paper) and send the results to to the State. The State would then total the numbers (on paper). We would then have the results. Hmm.. Lets see? Polls close at 8pm, after the all the phone calls are made, its like 10pm. Boy I don’t know what I would do if I had to wait two whole hours!

Just saw on Rawstory that Rove had a confrontation with an NPR host over the polls. He said that the other polls are wrong and that the Rebubs are ahead in almost all the races. He went on to say that he watched over 69 polls a day on a local basis that others were not privy to, which have the Rebubs ahead! If that’s not setting the public up to accept more miraculous wins by the Repubs, then I don’t know what the Hell it could be. The FIX is on – the only question is, “What do we do about it?”

When will we get computer savvy as a nation and realize that voting machines are programmed by elections board people (and) private vendors. Unless the general voting public understands this we will never have the rage needed to stop (any political party) from stealing elections. Eliminate the Proprietary Software laws. Demand from our congress that the software that runs our elections be laid out on the table for every citizen and every University in America to scrutinize prior to a general and mid-term election. Preposterous? Not in Australia… Some countries get it. Obviously we don’t. Damn any “Proprietary Software.” If your machine has in-house software, by God we want to see it!!!

I guess we’re supposed to believe the reason they can’t make the software public is that another computer company might steal this elegantly designed program and use it in their model so they can have names cut off too.
There is no excuse to have secret software in a voting machine and the comical flaws that have shown up in EVERY machine on the market proves that any computer savvy child could do a better job of writing decent vote counting software.

as i said befor i do belive we need to go backwards to move forward …if we want honesty we need to leave the machines out all together this includes the paper ballot counting machines as well, we need printed paper ballots but they need to be hand counted by humans .in this day and time of high tech abilities any thing can be remotely controled to mal function it dosnt have to be connected to the internet to be remote controled .it dosnt always mean the company who manufactures these machines is responsible either .again i conclude distence is not a factor for these mal functions to occour …wake up america !!!
