I waited to make this statement out of respect for those who have asked me to wait until all votes were counted, because the last vote cast is as important as the first.
On that last point, approximately 42,000 votes remain to be counted according to the registrar’s website.
In addition to the uncounted votes, there’s also the matter of Zogby’s ‘Exit Poll’ in CA-50 showing a 6% disparity with the reported results and oh, yes, the hackable-in-sixty-seconds Diebold touch-screen voting machine “sleepovers” — for a full three weeks with poll workers prior to the election in San Diego — which may never be fully accounted for.
Oh, well. It’s just democracy. How quaint.

in the primary earlier this summer we found that the election workers were completely unaware that any controversy surrounded the machines / yup they were all in their 70’s but that is no excuse / i am 73

Should San Diego County Registrar Mikel Haas Resign?
In Rodger Hedgecock’s poll as to whether or not the registrar in San Diego County should resign the results are two to one against resignation although earliar today when I voted they were 2 to 1 in favor of resignation. Apparently there has been a heavy effort to push for a no vote. If you favor resignation go to the poll and vote yes.

Busby should stay out of politics as she has no stomach for a real fight for democracy. I was more disappointed in her giving up the battle in June than I am now as she showed then that she didn’t have the courage to demand that IN A DEMOCRACY, ALL VOTES COUNT AS CAST ON VERIFIABLE MACHINES.
Moreover, she lost this election because she didn’t hold Mikel Haas accountable for his misfeasance and malfesance in June, she only encouraged his dishonesty by running away from the fight.

Congressional representatives are just that, and NOT leaders (except perhaps for a few). They are supposed to take OUR lead and represent US. That said, with Francine Busby’s unfortunate concession, the people of San Diego are most likely now to be mis-represented. Sad, sad, sad.
Do does that mean the 42000 provisional ballots won’t be counted?
I thought those were regular ballots, not provisional ones. They *should* be counted no matter what. Wouldn’t it be completely illegal to ignore them? What happened to them?
This battle belongs to the people of San Diego and democrats. Not Busby…bet she is a little more financially secure now that she has sold US out. Same goes for Kerry and Gore. If I lived in San Diego those uncounted votes would be very important to me.
I just hope Paul Lehto and the others who worked for the full recount in the CA-50 this summer do NOT do anything this time.

We must be MUCH more careful about who we run for office. There must be some kind of “pledge to support Democracy and fight to the death for electoral honesty” that any candidate that wants money should have to sign.
