While Bush has not only refused to condemn the ads of the ironically named “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth“, he’s using them to his advantage wherever possible.
Consider this exchange brought to my attention by a must-read Josh Marshall piece as Bush took this question at an “Ask the President” session in Oregon last week:
Q On behalf of Vietnam veterans — and I served six tours over there — we do support the President. I only have one concern, and that’s on the Purple Heart, and that is, is that there are over 200,000 Vietnam vets that died from Agent Orange and were never — no Purple Heart has ever been awarded to a Vietnam veteran because of Agent Orange because it’s never been changed in the regulations. Yet, we’ve got a candidate for President out here with two self-inflicted scratches, and I take that as an insult. (Applause.)
THE PRESIDENT: Well, I appreciate that. Thank you. Thank you for your service. Six tours? Whew. That’s a lot of tours.

Anyway, the SBVT stories are beginning to unravel hard, as reported in this morning’s Washington Post. But read Josh’s article for a fine summation and analysis of the entire ugly mess that has become become the Bush/Cheney ’04 campaign’s only pathetic and shameful hope.
You believe everyting Moore says and believe the SBVT are lying! That’s amazing! You guys started the entire ugly mess with your Bush was selected, not elected and Bush is a an idiot and Bush is Hitler and Anyone But Bush. Hate is not inspiring!

You’ll note though I’ve called their attacks reprehensible up till now (because no matter their level of truth, they’re reprehensible attacks), but after reading *alot* about it all, studying the FACTS, I have now called them liars.
I’m confident if you study the facts and the records of the case you’ll be able to make the same conclusion. Unless you are desperate to see George W. Bush elected to office and are willing to lie to yourself to make it happen.
Actually, and this will hopefully be the last time I have to finger point (as you mentioned, hate is not inspiring), I believe it was extreme conservatives and their never-even-masked hatred of Clinton that really began this ‘ugly mess’.
As for the military record, deflect deflect deflect. Assassinate John Kerry for alleged charges, allow them to resonate in the media for days and days, continue all the attacks on Rush, while Bush still has yet to offer up his military records. Deflect parry deflect.
Honestly no one even really cares, until y’all make it such an issue. THEN the liberal defense or retaliation is looked at as an act of aggression, all the while with the Oval Office swinging away. For those more impressionable, and they are a great portion of the country, it’s easy to misinterpret.
Heck, I might even vote for a conservative if it was anybody but Bush!
Ummmm…where was Bush? Case closed.
Ummmm…where was Clinton? It doesn’t matter if a president has been in the military or not. Case closed.

I wish all this crap would stop. Kerry served. The Green Beret he saved backed his story. The men in his boat backed his story. That’s it. Leave it alone.
Otherwise, I would have to say that Kerry and his surrogates would be in the right to bring up the Bush/AWOL issue again. Kerry had the decency to tell MoveOn to spike their ads. But if this continues, he’ll have no choice but to respond.
Move On brought the AWOL ad up again so that Kerry could denounce it. Kerry is the one who invoked Vietnam. Let’s talk about his senate record!!!!!!!!!

Yes, "they are really lying". Anybody who bothers to look, can easily find out. Your smoke screen is effective, however. You’ve even managed to smoke screen yourself. (As usual).
Of course, Paul has no proof for his claim. Proof not being necessary for liars.
Talk about Kerry’s Senate Record all you like. Of course, first you’d have to go learn about it, instead of merely parroting "Let’s talk about his Senate record". But I’m not holding my breath for that either.
