The Vindicator (Youngstown, Ohio) reports that ES&S is showing Lawrence Co., Pennsylvania, just why signing a contract with the company is like signing a contract with the devil. Some of the ES&S iVotronic machines used in Lawrence Co. in the 2006 election were found to have been improperly programmed, according to the article. ES&S had agreed to reprogram and recertify all of the county’s machines at no cost to the county (probably under pressure from county officials). However, the recent cold snap in that area caused some frozen pipes which resulted in a leak in the storage area. Upon inspection the county found about 20 of their 275 machines had evidence of water spots on their cases. The county asked ES&S to inspect those 20 machines. Instead ES&S is insisting on inspecting and recalibrating all 275 machines and they want $298,028 to do the job. So, no more free reprogramming and the county pays over $1,000 per machine for an inspection that is probably not needed. …

John, it required no vote, yet it was big news. And I have not seen it reported in the MSM.
The King of Jordan spoke before the joint congress and requested that the US seek peace in the mid east before a disaster to the whole world happens.
Why was it not covered in the MSM?
Is it a vote against peace in the mid-east?
I vote yes for a happy International Women’s Day for all women around the world. Especially this Iraqi woman.
Also I urge all to vote yes to restore habeas corpus to those detained without charges in Gitmo.
I have been readin Brad blog on and off for a couple years now and I figured this would be the best place to try to find out some information aboutSmartmatic voting machines, (from a US/Venezuelan company?) I think this is their site.
http://www.smartmatic.com/
I am interested in more about these machines as our government has just decided to buy 170 or so of them, they apparently have printers.

The poor saps. What they just bought is Sequoia Voting Systems machines.
You should have no trouble finding out more than you want to know about how you were just shafted by looking things up using the “Sequoia” name.
Of course there is no good e-voting system currently available, and the whole “e-voting industry” is about to undergo massive congressional relegislation that will probably make things even worse… so these lemmings disguised as election officials are spending millions of dollars more on this crap.
Yes, I would be scared of new machines and the company’s antics during the last election, running around trying to provide, it seems, whatever to meet the national requirement so I would suggest that hand paper ballets be provided instead.
Also, what the heck is going on with those expensive machines when those monies could be spent in the communities such as hiring poll workers, registration and verifying personnel, training, etc.
Keep the monies in OUR communities now instead of the big conglomerates outside of the communities.
Ineptitude of those companies shouldn’t be rewarded.
I say ‘Paper Ballots’ only and scrutineers galore to protect votes.
