One of America’s Worst Elections Administrators Gets a Promotion! Congratulations Mikel Haas!

Share article:

From the San Diego Union-Tribune today:

Mikel Haas, a 13-year county employee who oversaw a slew of elections in two stints as registrar of voters, has been promoted to one of the top executive positions in county government.

Haas, 49, will replace Alex Martinez, who retired March 16, as deputy chief administrative officer of the Community Services Group. In the post, Haas will oversee several departments, including the registrar, housing, animal services and general services.

Chief Administrative Officer Walt Ekard made the decision Thursday after considering several in-house candidates. He called Haas “a top-notch executive” with stellar management experience.

Haas earned $145,288 annually as registrar. His new salary has yet to be determined, county spokesman Mike Workman said.

In the North County Times’ report on same, which focused on the difficulty the county may have in finding a replacement for Haas, and bothered, (unlike the as-ever rightwing U-T’s coverage above) to note just some of the fire that Haas has been under for his horrible performance as head of elections in SD, added:

County Chief Administrative Officer Walt Ekard…issued a statement through Workman praising Haas, who had been something of a “troubleshooter” for the county during his 13 years.

A “troubleshooter” indeed, for the hard rightwing San Diego County administrators.

A quick review of a just a few BRAD BLOG items concerning Haas will inform the initiated about one of America’s worst, most dangerous, partisan Elections Administrators and the disaster that Diebold’s man in San Diego has been for the voters of San Diego as he’s overseen/mis-managed such elections as the Busby/Bilbray race and many more.

His failures have led both Democrats and Republicans to call for his resignation. Little wonder then, here in Bush’s World, that he’s now been rewarded for his bad work. Can the Medal of Freedom be far behind?

Heckuva job, San Diego!

Loyalty pays. We learned that from Bushco. If you can run a quarterhorse association, you can run FEMA. If you can screw the public out of transparency in elections, you can get elevated.

Performance only counts when … hmm, I don’t know, when DOES performance count??

Haas will oversee several departments, including the registrar, housing, animal services and general services.

Yeah, that means more rigged elections, less affordable housing, fewer general services, and he’ll probably be allowed to personally torture the cats and dogs in the animal shelters as a reward for his “service.”

Welcome to San Diego — America’s fascist city.

    Dear Mr. Ekard:

I’ll be Registrar of Voters. The citizen of San Diego deserve someone who will put democracy first and who is willing to shed his political affiliations at the office door. And, I’ll do it all for only $144,000.00/year.
Call me. You have my number.

    Ken Simpkins

    Ken,
That would be wonderful if you were to be appointed, but refer to my comment #1 about rewards for loyalty vs rewards for performance.

You are a master of performance!

Ken Simpkins would make a GREAT registrar of voters. But you better publish or give them your phone number again, Simpkins, so they don’t lose it.

How can we forget Haas’s deliberate, policy-based slow counting of paper ballots from the polls, where any voter who exercised their right to a paper ballot at the polls in November did not even start to have their ballot counted until at least Thursday after the election, and probably later, and was guaranteed not to even have a chance to be part of the results reported on election night.

Boy, the shit really floats to the top in government these days. Sheesh. Haas sucks. They are totally setting up a localised Michael Brown/FEMA type disaster here. He DOES NOT represent the kind of open and honest government that people want these days, and is likely to serve himself and his partisan pals rather than we the people. I could see a re-assignment of him to another job because of previous problems, but a PROMOTION???! Walt Ekard you are an IDIOT. Hang your head in shame.

Ken Simpkins for Registar of Voters! Go ahead, San Diego, do it!!! Oh. Wait. Does the guy in charge of the Registrar get to appoint the new one? That means Mikel Haas gets to appoint…? Well, okay – no matter what San Diegan decides this – come on! What a great challenge all around- you want to sell newspapers? Give people real drama, with no “fixes”, just real-life challenges to make things honest! Ken Simpkins and the people vs. corruption, private secrets in the public sphere, and greed.

BURIED IN THE DETAILS: FORMER RIVCO ROV TO PINCH-HIT IN SAN DIEGO

Former RivCo ROV Mischelle Townsend will take the reins while San Diego searches for a new ROV.

Some will recall it was Mischelle Townsend who ushered in the wonderful world of e-voting by purchasing and using Sequoia Edge I machines in time for the 2000 presidential election in Riverside County. This was the first time that DREs were used on a county-wide basis for a major (presidential) election in the U.S.

Ms. Townsend subsequently convinced Theresa LePore in West Palm Beach that Sequoia and DREs were the way to go. And the rest is history…

Haas has been a working member of the growing conspiracy to corrupt the ’08 election. The plan is being managed by Rove in and at the White House.

This includes Attorneygate as a means of placing operatives in key states to corrupt the election by thwarting democratic activity and voting thru bad prosecutions of democratic voters and candidates.

The person who actually hired the current White House Counsel does not like what he sees:

One further disclosure: I have never been an advocate of executive privilege, except as it might relate to the most sensitive national security information. To the contrary, you show me a White House aide who does not want his conversations and advice to the president revealed, and I will show you someone who should not be talking with or advising a president.

    (John Dean Article).

Attorneygate could ruin the plan to corrupt the ’08 election if congress can “be all it can be”.

thanks for posting Haas’s photo again. My OLD dartboard is worn out now.

It’s too bad these bastards from Rove and the election manipulation foundation can’t seem to get busted once and for all.

I read about how Rove’s early days he stole some papers from the democrats and printed crap on it then distributed it saying something like come to the party, the beer is free the women are free. What is that? And WHY THE FUCK DOES HE STIL HAVE A FUCKING SECURITY CLEARANCE?!

    alright, I’ll calm down.
