A former Los Angles newscaster turned progressive talk radio host, Bree Walker, will be purchasing Cindy Sheehan’s 5-acre property near the Bush ranch in Crawford, Texas, The BRAD BLOG has learned.
Walker, currently a resident of San Diego, was previously a television news anchor in Los Angles and New York. She confirmed the news to us moments ago, in an exclusive interview, that she intends to keep the property “as a ground for freedom and peace” and is considering erecting a memorial there for troops killed in Iraq. She hopes to create a meditation garden on the grounds and to keep it open to the public.
“I’m cashing out my capitalist corporate stocks and buying into a legacy of peace,” she told The BRAD BLOG moments ago. Sheehan will be selling the property for the same price she purchased it for so as not to be seen as profiting from the sale, Walker explained.
Walker is the host of the The Bree Walker Show on the Los Angeles Air America affiliate station KTLK AM1150 on Saturdays from 2-4pm PT.
Sheehan will appear in studio with Walker for the entirety of tomorrow’s broadcast where, Walker says, she’ll “give Cindy the check, and Cindy will give me the deed to the property.”
She tells us that she’ll be taking calls from listeners during tomorrow’s show as she wants “listener input on what should be done with the land.”
The BRAD BLOG’s creator and publisher, Brad Friedman, is scheduled to appear on Walker’s show Saturday as well, at 3:00pm PT, by phone.
In a Memorial Day posting, Sheehan announced that she would be stepping away from her leadership role in the Peace Movement and planned to sell the Crawford property. Originally she had announced the property would be sold on Ebay, but shortly afterwards a group of Bush supporters announced their intentions to try and purchase the land.
That group, “Moving America Forward,” had staged protests during Sheehan’s original attempt, in the summer of 2005, to meet with Bush in hopes that he would explain the “noble cause” that he had claimed her son, and others, had died for in Iraq.
Bush refused to meet with Sheehan, whose son Casey, an Army Specialist, was killed in an April 2004 rescue mission in Sadr City, Iraq. Thousands of supporters gathered from around the nation to hold a vigil along with Sheehan in 2005 near Bush’s ranch during his summer vacation. A national peace movement grew out of her stand that summer. The area where the protests were held was dubbed “Camp Casey.”
After the city created new ordinances to keep protesters from occupying public property during protests, Sheehan bought the land where protest gatherings have been held at various times since whenever Bush was to be on vacation.
Ours was the only organization doing regular full-length daily radio broadcasts from the protest grounds that summer. Highlights from The BRAD SHOW’s more than 50 hours of special “Operation Noble Cause” radio broadcasts may be heard online here.
UPDATE 6/9/07: Sheehan hands deed to Walker during in-studio appearance on Walker’s show. Details, audio, now posted here…

Well that’s a relief at least Blackwater, Caci, and Aegis Security Companies won’t be using Cindy’s land in Texas for a rifle, machine gun, and bomb firing range, or contaminating the soil with DU.
I would simply like to express my gratitude to both ladies. Cindy single handidly turned this country around. She took a lot of abuse, but made it acceptable to oppose the war. Cindy, you have opened many eyes and saved many lives. Please accept my appreciation.
Ms. Walker, thank you for keeping this memory alive. Please include some background on Cindy Sheehan’s sacrifice, so that her courage will be remembered, and her abusers will be shamed by history.

Brava Bree – I’ve been a fan since you were on the news here in L.A., but nothing can compare to the pride and gratitude I feel right now.
Thank you seems so inadequate for what you are doing, continuing a legacy that the very, very brave Ms. Sheehan began in honor of her equally valored son, Casey.

Hi Brad

Kudos to Ms Bree, thank you very much. Ditto to “Another Mother” post above- I hope the abuse heaped on Cindy by the cowards who began this war comes back to them in spades…
It is a political buyers market. Seems like everyone is selling out or sumpin.
“May as well try and catch the wind”.
Bree has always been one of the beautiful people of this world, and will be until the end. The type of beauty that comes from the core of her bones. More power to you Bree, and to Cindy for keeping the heat on, even if it was not quite the complete and total truth being said, it was closer to the truth than any other words spoken.
Those of us that have followed Brees career from those beautiful kpri lips to her current radio program, have been touched by an angelic woman. I wish the rest of the world was full her care and concern for others,, we would never need a,,,
‘Peace memorial’
.
Thanks Brad for the exposure.
Bree, It is a great idea to build a memorial to the troops on the site. I would be willing to contribute money to help build the memorial. I am sure others would be willing as well.
You should set up a memorial trust through a varifiable source to make sure those of us who wish to contribute will actually be able to do so without scammers stealing the money. You could probably get RAW to post the address on the RAW web site. A memorial on that particular site is where the peace movement truly took hold. Thanks you

Well, it is a nice gesture for the miseducated and deeply indoctrinated US soldiers who died invading other people’s lands, with mass bombings and atrocious attacks on the civilian infrastructure.
Yes, these soldiers were dupes–they were never schooled in critical thinking, recognizing state/corporate propaganda; they never delved into the nuances of US and world history. As is ‘norma’ in the US, they were too busy watching corporate televsion, so they were not capable of recognizing the illegal, imperialist designs behind the ‘war on terror’ (aka, the terror war of empire).
So, yes, erecting a monument to these duped servants of the US empire is touching–some would say ‘radical’.
But a more genuine and sincere monumment would be to the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed and permanently maimed by US agression. We don’ t hear too much about these (browner) people in the ‘left/progressive/liberal’ media that is (rightly) opposed to Bush.
Why don’t we see daily pictures of the Iraqis that have been killed and maimed by this criminal war of agression?
If you ponder that question, you might become a little uncomfortable in your facil self righteousness.
Just a thought from a slave in revolt (or, a ‘revolting slave’, take your pick.)
I hope Ms. Walker can muster the necessary drive to cause as much discomfort for DuMbya and the rest of his cabal as possible. Having neighbors with whom you do not get along is a commonplace situation and it is clear that DuMbya will exercise ANY action, legal or otherwise, to prevent Ms. Walker from using her land as she sees fit. If zoning would allow it a carnival would be most apropos! Noise, traffic, and screaming children, would be far too NICE for the idiot that has the intellect of a doorknob. May you rot in hell DuMbya, the traitor to what used to be American democracy.
Many thanks for saving a small parcel of land that may cause Bush jr. headaches in the future. He claims he wants a legacy: history will prove that his legacy was failure, failure and failure. A momunment of shame should be erected for all to see and learn of his lies and evil ways.
Thinking people in America have begun to wake up.
Something that should be remembered by everyone who thinks they know anything about President Scherf… er um I mean Bush. This is a FAKE RANCH. If memory serves, it hadn’t even been finished at the time of the 2000 election. It was intended for nothing but show, to make scher… er, um, bush look like Reagan. Since the tabloids have reported extensively on pre-divorce arrangements of the bushes, and the alternative press claims the “ranch” will be abandoned/sold after the 08 election, if not before – well a memorial will be nice. But, er um, bush won’t be there. Neither, I presume, will Ted Nugent and his wife Shelly, who will never recover their reputations once the full truth comes out about scher… er um bush, after 08.
I thought the e-mail addresses wouldn’t be published, yet mine keeps coming up here.

Kim Terpening – Good to see from you, Kim! Hope you’ve found some cooler weather since the Summer of ’05! Wasn’t sure whose photo that was, actually, when I found it online while quickly putting the item above together. Will add your photo credit to the graphic when I’m back at my computer shortly! No slight intended, and I’d recommend everyone check out “Alaskygyrl’s” great Camp Casey photos at: http://alaskagyrl.blogspot.com

We would donate our labor and the 4’dia. hardwood log we would like to carve it on site during dubya’s vacation. maybe something along the lines of a stylized Pieta.
i sent cindy a letter offering to buy the land from her and also stating i would build a mem for the troops. i guess its about who you are. since i made the same offer and i made my offer befor this lady did.
i guess i am not limelight enough for her.
I too , have been a Bree fan since she was an anchor in San Diego —- we miss you Bree but I’m happy to hear you’re continuing to broadcast and let us share your “good heart”.
How about creating a wall built of field stones, or bricks; one for each American soldier killed or wounded? They tell us that the wounds the soldiers are receiving in Iraq would have meant death in the Vietnam war so including the wounded would create a huge wall that would profoundly affect the people seeing it. The design of the wall could be similar to the Vietnam memorial to further drive home the scale of this war.
