Diebold seems to have convinced the Florida Sec. of State that they have fixed security problems found on their optical-scan systems during a review by Florida State University. It’s amazing how they did that in just a couple weeks. Or maybe not. The Attorney General of New Jersey has denied certification for use of any voter verified paper audit trail printer on the state’s voting machines. State law requires these printers be used by January 2008 but testing of the printers has shown they do not work as advertised. No printers; no DREs. There is still much more news coming from California….

      John,

I noticed that candidate Ron Paul backed away from a lawsuit filed by some anti-Diebold-machine folks in the Iowa straw polling arena.

A lawsuit by republicans against republicans evidently seeks to challenge the methods and practices used in that election:

Some supporters of presidential candidate Ron Paul have been sounding the alarm about potential voting irregularities in this weekend’s Republican straw poll.

      (Raw Story).

      The campaign said:

Representatives of the campaign privately discussed potential security vulnerabilities in the Diebold voting machines to be used in Saturday’s vote, but a spokesman tells RAW STORY that Paul’s campaign never intended to publicly challenge the vote.

“We didn’t want to use and will not use this as a public relations opportunity,” Jesse Benton, a spokesman for Paul’s campaign, said in a telephone interview. “We have no part in that lawsuit.”

(ibid). Where have we heard that before? I noticed that you had three links to various aspects of that story.

One wonders if there any connection between republican ownership of Diebold and the faith in Diebold machines:

The Iowa Republican Party says the vote will be “fraud-proof, honest and secure.” Participants will have to show a valid Iowa ID and will have their thumbs dyed purple to prevent multiple votes.

(ibid, emphasis added). One also wonders how why they think they can guarantee no fraud. Maybe it is the purple magic die that makes fraud impossible there?
