12 U.S. Army Captains: Begin a Draft or Get Out ‘Immediately’

Share article:

Well now we’re really confused. Over the last three days we’ve heard McCain and Rush and O’Reilly all reprimand us for not paying attention to how well the “new” strategy is working in Iraq and how things are finally beginning to get straightened out over there.

Yet 12 former U.S. Army captains who served in Iraq between ’03 and ’06, all indicate otherwise on today’s usually-rightwing WaPo editorial page.

Criticizing “the surge” as not working, their comments begin: “Five years on, the Iraq war is as undermanned and under-resourced as it was from the start. And, five years on, Iraq is in shambles.”

…And concluding thusly:

There is one way we might be able to succeed in Iraq. To continue an operation of this intensity and duration, we would have to abandon our volunteer military for compulsory service. Short of that, our best option is to leave Iraq immediately. A scaled withdrawal will not prevent a civil war, and it will spend more blood and treasure on a losing proposition.

America, it has been five years. It’s time to make a choice.

Once again, we must ask: Why do the troops hate the troops? And when will the troops on the ground start listening to the troops on the ground?

Does it even matter that there is independent thought on this issue?

Is it possible to scream loud enough to stop the madness or do the right people have the wrong earplugs in?

I heard that 1000 people tried to arrest Bush for war crimes recently.

What about 100,000 people trying to arrest Bush for war crimes?

Are we in a downward spiral that ends in martial law?

or Is it because they ARE sacrificing us? Their thought process is much different then ours. Their goals are much different then ours. This country is theirs and always has been. You the people are the slaves, the serfs. If They say that it is time for you to die then stop your complaining you don’t own your body.

They don’t follow any god that you’ve ever heard of. They certainly don’t follow the rules that you follow. Why should we even put one ounce of hope into a system that is bought and sold like cheap meat.

Therefore I extend this invitation to any who want it. We NEED to get off of this planet. It seems that alot of our human brother and sisters are totally fucked in the head and bent on self destruction. This place is just not big enough any more. There just doesn’t seem to be any more room for people to live authentically anymore. They are truly backing us into a corner and forcing us to play by their rules. Rules that they never uphold and rules that they have broken from day one.

    They, They, They, They

or is it US? incapable of any meaningful action because we are forced to work night and day for an invisible piece of that pie that never comes with whipcream. Well damn it I want some whip cream and If I have to go to another planet to get some then maybe I will. Cause my fellow Americans you don’t want to share anymore and your whip cream quite frankly stinks.

I myself am really sick of the troops not supporting the troops. If the troops don’t like the war, they should move to another country — somewhere like Iraq where people aren’t free — then they’ll thank their lucky stars and stripes that America is free to wage war on other countries.

Well why should they worry when they have Blackwater to cover their back?

Blackwater is there to kill and maim Iraqi’s and then tell the Iraqi government, now the purple thumbed democracy touted by the bushies, “come and get us coppa” a la the mob:

A defiant Blackwater Chairman Erik Prince said yesterday he will not allow Iraqi authorities to arrest his contractors and try them in Iraq’s faulty justice system.

“We will not let our people be taken by the Iraqis,” Mr. Prince told editors and reporters at The Washington Times. At least 17 of 20 Blackwater guards being investigated for their roles in a Sept. 16 shooting incident are still in a secure compound in Baghdad’s Green Zone and carrying out limited duties.

(Washington Times, emphasis added). Could it be that the Iraqi justice system is worse than the US Department of Justice Just Us run by bushies? Or is it because the Iraqi system is better and puts thugs in jail? Wierd Al G where are you when preznit blush needs ya?

The Turks are preparing to invade from the North:

Turkey’s parliament approved by a large majority on Wednesday a government request to allow troops to cross into northern Iraq to crush Kurdish rebels based there.

(Yahoo!). Russia has just warned the neoCons not to invade Iran, and Putin was the first Russian head of state to visit there since Stalin:

Putin’s visit to Tehran on Tuesday was watched closely because of Moscow’s possible leverage in the Islamic Republic’s nuclear row with the West. It was the first time a Kremlin chief went to Iran since Josef Stalin in 1943.

(Reuters). The troops are surrounded at the borders by hundreds of thousands of soldiers, and outnumbered in Iraq by millions of people who think it is ok to kill american troops.

You are “doin a heckuva job: generals betrayus.

The new news here is that Canada was NEVER asked or expected to go into Iraq! I guess Rumfeld did ask for a couple of ships or something but Chretien said no.

Sorry haven’t been able to find a transcript. The information may have come from a book written by Janice Gross Stein and Eugene Lang, called The Unexpected War

Bush/Cheney broke our military, and a draft will cause a revolt. It’s a lose-lose situation for them. People will revolt against a draft, because they know the rich politicians will find a way to get their kids out of the draft and the CMSM won’t report on it. And people won’t take it. And the forces there now have had it, too. Something drastic, like a false flag, is the only thing they can do, and too many people are watching and are wise to it now.

I am sick to death of hearing the fake opposition Dems in Congress moan about not having enough votes to end the war in Iraq. They give lip service to the myth that the only way to end the war is to write a bill saying “the war is now over” and send it to Bush for a prompt veto, then override the veto. They then throw up their hands, saying “Well, as you can see, we don’t have the votes to override any veto, so there’s no way to end the war. Sorry folks.”

This is disingenious and vividly illustrates who the Dems are really serving: the establishment, not their constituents.

Here’s how to end the war: No bill specifically ending the war is even necessary. Remember those supplemental funding bills the Cheney regime has to constantly ask for, to continue funding the Iraq war piecemeal instead of in yearly lump sums attached to the actual defense budget? That’s the achilles’ heel of their war effort. The next time Bush asks for another $80 billion or whatever to keep the Iraq bloodbath going, all the Democrats have to do to end the war is to say: NO. To say “We won’t allocate one more penny for your illegal war”. Last I checked the Dems have a wafer-thin majority in both houses. With no Dems voting for the next spending bill it won’t be passed and thus it won’t make it to Bush’s desk for signing. Bush (and especially his puppetmaster Cheney) may have concentrated an inordinate amount of power in the hands of the executive branch, but even they can’t send spending bills to their own desk. That necessarily has to come from Congress. If it never reaches his desk he can’t sign it, and will have 2 choices: 1.pull the troops out while there is still enough money left in the pipeline so to speak (and anyone who has five or more brain cells knows that the money isn’t going to run out the next day, that’s a non-issue that the right wing tries to use as a scare tactic but it is ridiculously dumbed down and simply not true; they don’t wait until they have $5 left before asking for another supplemental OK?); or 2.don’t pull them out right away, and leave them to wither on the vine in Iraq until the money DOES completely run out and they have to withdraw from Iraq chaotically, burning their supplies and vehicles. Either way the war will end pretty soon if the Dems refuse to vote on supplementals. They don’t have to write a bill saying they are cutting off funding; this is only a fig leaf so they can pretend to be doing something to end the war when all they are doing is purposely spinning their wheels. All they have to do is to NOT VOTE ON SUPPLEMENTALS. Pretty fucking simple. The people NOW need to DEMAND in so many words that if the Democrats are a genuine opposition party that they will carry out the will of the people and NOT VOTE on supplementals. If they are a fake opposition party as I feel they are, and are acting not in the people’s interest but playing for the same team as the Republicans, then continue with more of the same hand-wringing and impotent nonbinding resolutions that resolve nothing. Decision time Democrats. Which are you? Genuine? Or fake opposition? I think I already know the answer to that one but why don’t you surprise me?
