Shorter George Bush: All Guns. No Butter:
The president’s action was announced on Air Force One as Bush flew to Indiana for a speech expected to criticize the Democratic-led Congress on its budget priorities.
The $471 billion defense budget gives the Pentagon a 9 percent increase, roughly $40 billion.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey (D-WI) responded:
“That is not responsible and it is not credible,” Obey said of the vetoed bill. “There has been virtually no criticism of its contents. It is clear the only reason the president vetoed this bill is pure politics.”







I agree that this spending was not necessary. I think that we do need to focus more on medical research, and other aspects like education but the current times suggest otherwise. We are already in the war so we must support it to the point where eventually we can get out of the war. Spending more money on the military might be essential if we need it. The question is, do we need to spend more money on the war?
