ADDENDUM…
By way of happy coincidence, we had mocked up the above item on Friday night for prep to run later, and then showed up to speak Saturday morning at the independent media conference here in Santa Cruz where a guy who looked very similar to the video above was making a few announcements from the podium. Turns out it was the same guy, Bryan Sacks of Philadelphia, and he was one of the organizers of the conference. Small world. Got to chat with him for a while later in the day, and happily so. He’s a good guy. Plus, he thoroughly apologizes for not giving The BRAD BLOG its proper hat-tip in the above video, claiming that he did in the original script, but it ended up on the cutting room floor. We shall endeavor to forgive him and look forward to him otherwise keeping up the good work!

The governor of NH is a big wheel in the DLC; a Clinton ally. It is obviously important that a stolen election be examined in the context of the governor and board of elections who controlled the count. We may have learned in New Hampshire that it matters whether a Democratic governor is a DLC member, and therefore on the Clinton team.
    So –

    Re: Super Diebold Tuesday

Here’s what I got from Wikipedia and a cursory Google search.

Super Tuesday 2008 primaries (not caucuses):
    State Voting Machines Governor
    AL Diebold R
    AZ Diebold D – Napolitano – DLC
AR DRE D – Mike Beebe – DLC
    CA Diebold? R
CO Diebold D – Bill Ritter – DLC
    CT Diebold R
DE DRE D – Ruth Ann Minner – DLC
    GA Diebold R
IL Diebold D – Rod Blagojevich – DLC
    MA ? D – Deval Patrick – DLC
    MN Diebold R
    MO Diebold R
NJ Sequoia D – Jon Corzine
NM Diebold D – Bill Richardson – DLC
NY Diebold D – Eliot Spitzer – DLC
    OK ? D – C. Brad Henry – DLC
TN Diebold D – Phil Bredesen – DLC
    UT Diebold? R

This is astonishing – much worse than I anticipated. I thought I’d find a few. Not all.
Maybe I’m wrong. Some of these states may have decertified, or be in the process of decertifying, their voting machines. (Since the governors of all the Super Tuesday states except NJ are either Republicans or DLC Democrats, I bet they aren’t.)
So far as I can tell in a cursory search, all of the Democratic governors in the Super Tuesday primaries, except Corzine, are members of Billary’s DLC.
Again, maybe I’ve gotten a few of them wrong.
I can’t vouch for my research, which is incomplete and probably inaccurate; I only spent a couple of hours on this. 🙂
But if this is even close to correct, I suggest that the next Diebold heist needs to be talked about before it takes place. Surely this is a story that can use some daylight.

Whether by hook or by crook, according to McCain “we will have more wars“. Preznit McCain would “bomb bomb bomb … bomb bomb Iran”.

Vote anti-war and hope it counts, because there are more votes to count than there is money to count.

Money is wasted on wars, and ballots are wasted by machines.

Thank you Colllateral TV, Crooks and Liars, and Brad Blog for doing the work that our media is failing us in NOT doing. “They can’t bomb us into peace” Michael Franti. Mark my words, these global profiteering korporatists will become prisoners in their own cages, as psychologically they all ready are, but how many millions of our brothers and sisters will perish for their greed? Its disgusting that they even call themselves christians, for they have forgotten “What you do unto the least of my brothers, YOU DO UNTO ME .”

He (Obama) better pick a White male veep and not let Jackson or Sharpton publicly endorse him, it’s the kiss of death politically

FISA bill debate in the Senate again today – delayed but still dangerous.

Last week when I posted here on this subject I said it was “D-Day for FISA” and it was supposed to be just that… but Senate Majority Capitulator Reid again delayed the vote. Which was actually good news.

And also somewhat good news is that Reid has finally placed the same restrictions on the Republicans that he’s been forcing on the Democrats… if the R’s want to filibuster a germane amendment, such as one that strips telco immunity from the new FISA bill, then they must stand and keep talking. So… it’s do or die today.

After listening to several Republicans explain to the Senate last week that yes, they understood that not only is immunity for telcos also immunity for Bush and company, but that it also amounted, in fact, to future immunity for crimes that Bush’s regime might choose to commit…

… after hearing that spoken aloud 12 Democrats still caved to Bush’s terror tactics and voted with the Republicans last week for the version of the bill with telco immunity.

The bill with immunity for Bush and company.

The bill that, without exagerration, gives the Bush regime the authotity to break the law whenever it sees fit.

And now the Republicans are forcing a cloture vote to shut off debate and amendments… they need 60 “Yea” votes for cloture to shut down amendments.

Amendments have already been proposed to strip immunity from the bill and other amendments would add various civil liberties protections back in to the bill.

The Republicans need 60 yes votes… and 12 Democrats stood ready to help them do it last week.

And this is one cave-in that must not happen

The cloture vote is scheaduled for 4:30 PM EST
Tell these Dems to vote NO to cloture:

(list cobbled together from various sources including talkingpoints, daily kos, and bradblog. All errors are mine alone- alert me to such errors.)

    Bayh (D IN) (202) 224-5623
    Carper (D DE) (202) 224-2441
    Inouye (D HI) (202) 224-3934
    Johnson (D SD)(202) 224-5842
    Landrieu (D LA) (202)224-5824
    McCaskill (D MO) (202) 224-6154
    Mikulski (D MD) (202) 224-4654
    Nelson (D FL) (202) 224-5274
    Nelson (D NE) (202) 224-6551
    Pryor (D AR)(202) 224-2353
    Salazar (D CO) (202) 224-5852

Rockefeller, D-WV who caved last week, has apparently now stated that he will vote no on cloture.

    ACLU tip:

The most effective calls to Congress are polite, respectful and clearly state what you’re asking your Member of Congress to do.

    Hi Brad et al,

I’m posting this here, in hopes that I’ll get a quicker response.

What is your response to H.R. 5036?

MoveOn is urging its members to ask their representatives to cosponsor this bill.

    Thanks.

I watched the endorsement of Obama at American University minutes ago. It was stirring and really alive!

Sen. Kennedy did not put down Hillary or Edwards, but instead said he would support them if they won the nomination, however, the said he fully and completely supports Obama and will work to make sure he gets the nomination.

The last thing I wrote in regards to that particular new Holt bill is here.

Have not had time to review the new version, to see if any substantive changes have been made, so I’ll leave my comments, for the moment, as they were above.

From my understanding, the bill does not make money available for paper BALLOTS to jurisdictions that currently use DREs with “paper trails” for some reason, which really troubles me. I’m hoping that’s changed in the introduced version, so though from what I’ve been hearing (as opposed to reading with my own eyes — so I can’t confirm) it has not been.

If there’s a Senate version that is more robust (see the article I linked to above), I may be able to get more excited about it.

The FISA immunity for telecoms bill is being discussed here now.

Rockefelly just urged everyone to keep the filibuster going … to vote against cloture.

The first dem filibuster on a major issue … Sen. Dodd is to be thanked.

    Brad #15

I can’t see anything wrong with money for helping go to paper ballots … so long as they are required to use adult methods of chain of custody … but the economy is bleeding so bad it will be difficult.

This substantially as posted before on

Holt strikes out again? I am worried!

    1. Audits are only conducted at the whim of the jurisdiction.

    2. Audits are to cover fixed percentage of votes [ 3 % ].

So jurisdictions afflicted with fraudsters don’t audit.

And innocent jurisdictions do not get a really robust audit plan. Fixed percentage designs are considered worst when elections are close…and audit is most important

It is true that the bill requires NIST to approve proposed alternative audit plans submitted by jurisdictions. But jurisdictions needing more robust plans will not necessarily [a] realize it [there are 180,000, remember; and many are uncomfortable with statistics and especially with arguing about audit statistics them with politicians] or [b] wish to set a higher standard.

Thanks. So here’s the letter I sent to MoveOn:

Glad to read that you have turned down the rhetoric in your attempts to get members to contact representatives on issues and bills.

For some reason, this particular new Holt bill does not make money available for paper ballots to jurisdictions that currently use electronic voting machines with so-called “paper trails,” which is really troubling. It is essential that this revision be made before this bill is approved, in order to ensure that every vote is counted and is counted accurately, which is the actual goal of election reform legislation. Right?

Here is the problem that you folks really must understand about this “machine-counted and/or electronic ballots with computer printouts vs. hand-counted paper ballots” issue. A voter may cast her votes on a machine. Then, just because she gets a computer printout showing her how she cast her votes, does not mean that the software inside the machine has recorded her votes in the way that the printout is showing her it did. This problem is so fundamental, and so insidious, that it simply cannot be glossed over as an “Oh, yeah, we know this legislation isn’t perfect, but it’s better than it was before blah-blah-blah.”

The really troubling part about this omission in H.R. 5036 is the “Why?” of it. This problem is not difficult to grasp, but it’s really easy to gloss over in a discussion with citizens/voters who are not as well-informed about these electronic voting machines as one would hope they would be.

Therefore, I am asking my representative, Lynn Woolsey, to make this revision, before I ask her to become a cosponsor of H.R. 5036.

FISA debate update: The battle for a reasonable FISA amendment bill to replace the bad PAA law will continue.

    Good news:
Cloture to shut down FISA amendment debate failed.

The Democratic senators grew a collective spine… the Republican motion to endorse Bush’s legislative terror tactics and shut down debate on amendments to a bad version of the prospective FISA bill has failed.

    “As was expected” news:
The motion for cloture on a 30 day extension to the Protect America Act did fail… the PAA is an atrocious law, passed in haste by a Democratic Senate cave-in, but Bush and company will use its immenent expiration as a yet another terror tactic against FISA debate… trying to force the Dems to give the administration the immunity Bush and company it wants under the threat that the terrorists will kill us all the second the bad PAA law expires.

Dredd: the filibuster is not yet, as there is still a chance, now there is a chance, to pass a FISA amendment bill without immunity for the telcos and Bush.

But if the Dems cave again and an immunity provision is left in the bill then Dodd will filibuster.

For now, the Senate has adjourned for the SOTU address. Reconvenes at 8:30, I think, but it seems FISA debate is to resume tommorow morning.

And you all do see it now, don’t you? The Dems didn’t need to suddenly all grow male genitals… they just needed to evolve past the mollusc stage.

    Yay Vertebrates! 🙂

    FSCKED UP FISA BILL STATUS
    FISA STATUS

Mostly I think we are being emotionally brought up and down on this until our fourth amendment is gone. But Hey what the fuck if I can help change some minds… And protect my constitution. CALL THESE SENATORS! CALL THEM CALL THEM CALL THEM

  15. 22)
the zapkitty said on 1/28/2008 @ 6:14pm PT: [Permalink]

    … Phil’s shout out!…

“CALL THESE SENATORS! CALL THEM CALL THEM CALL THEM”

But be prepared to address the changing landscape of the debate. It won’t do to keep calling about votes we’ve won… except to say “Thank You!” to those who didn’t cave in to terror…

… and to politely but firmly school those “Democratic” senators who did cave:

    Landrieu (D LA) (202) 224-5824
    Lincoln (D AR) (202) 224-4843
    Nelson (D NE) (202) 224-6551
    Pryor (D AR)(202) 224-2353

And next up?…. now that we (the people) have won the right to continue debate on the FISA amendment bill, people should concentrate on “No immunity” and the “Judiciary version with its 4th amendment protections” when calling senators.

And beware: now that amendments are allowed, watch out for an amendment sure to be offerered… an amendment that is actually backdoored immunity. This particular amendment will try to substitute the government for the telcos as the target of all legal proceedings… whereupon the Bush misadministration will just say…
    “State secrets. Go Cheney yourself.”
… and saunter out the courtroom door.

That amendment must not pass, either.
