Kerry Gets the Videos Rollin’!

Share article:

If, like me, you don’t live in a swing state, you may be unaware of the new TV spots from the Kerry Team. Their new “Juvenile” ad hits back hard at Bush’s silly new “Windsurfing” attack ad.

Perhaps it’s just me, but I think it might be nice to have a serious person in the White House during some rather serious times.

Most importantly, the Kerry Team got this one out quickly in rapid response! Perhaps they’re starting to get it. If I can turn out a video ad in an afternoon with no resources, cheap lifted graphics and a free video editor, I’d think they could do much better! And it looks like they’re finally starting to!

After checking out the “Juvenile” spot, be sure to check out some of Kerry’s other recent TV spots that you may not have seen! Impressive and lookin’ much better!

Special thanks to Alan Colmes (Yes, Alan Colmes!) and Fox News (Yes, Fox News!) for tipping me off to the ad by showing it tonight in immediate response after playing the Bush ad! It’s nice to see a bit of actual “Fair and Balance” from Fox! And Colmes delivered some of that tonight!

Though I may have a few things to say about O’Reilly a bit later… 🙂

Living in a "battleground" state like I do (Maine), we are getting flooded with these ads, and have been since the beginning.

Kerry has defintely stepped up his game ad-wise. There are a couple more in the "Juvenille"-style being run by the DNC which are pretty effective. And a new Kerry campaign ad where Kerry talks about the Magical Disappearing $200B for Iraq and what that spending is preventing us from doing here at home. I think it’s a fair question if only because we apparently haven’t spent any of this money actually REBUILDING Iraq.

Anyway, we also get Bush ads up the wazoo. The "funniest" one to me is where he blasts Kerry for the $1.5T health care plan. Now, I don’t like that either. But to have this coming from a man who pushed a bloated Medicare plan into effect that could cost us upwards of 8-12 TRILLION dollars…well, the hypocricy is evident.

There are two letters (one from Bush and one from Kerry) in the latest Glamour Magazine. They letters are addressed to their daughters. The theme is "what i want for my daughters".

I’m just going to share some excerpts with you. I’m not trying to take anything out of context. Just highliting some key thoughts. If you want to read the entire letter, it’s in the october issue.

    BUSH:

"When the terrorists attacked us on September 11, 2001, it was not a war we wanted or sought. Fighting terror and promoting democracy in places like Afghanistan and Iraq require hard work and difficult choices for us and other countries. Yet I have no doubt we will prevail because I have seen the unselfish courage of a new generation of Americans who are ready to serve and sacrifice for the cause of freedom. I also believe in the power of freedom to overcome violence. While terrorist offer young men and women bitterness and anger, free societies inspire them to work for a better future. Under the Taliban, little girls were forbidden to go to school. Now they can, and as one of them said, "I want to become a laywer because I want to bring justice and freedom to Afghanistan, especially for women."

    KERRY:

"You live in a country that is in constant motion. sometimes our leaders guide us in a way that pulls our country closer to its shared ideals of equal opportunity for all and special privileges for none. Our constitution isn’t perfect. I worry that decades of progress will come to a halt because personal ideology comes first instead of doing what’s right for the country. I see a workplace that is increasingly unfair to women. I see leaders in Washington working night and day to shrink education funding. I see a Washington that is working to overturn a right that belongs to you, that is trying to take away a decision that should be between you and your docotr. It’s not my business and it is certainly not your government’s to know what private and painful decisions you might have to make. The USA should never go to war because we want to; we should only go to war because we have to. I know that when the world is with us, we all have a chance to move toward a lasting peace. Some may say that’s idealistic: to dream big and hope for a peaceful world. I say, you HAVE to think like that. "

Interesting , huh? By the way. Anybody want to be that if Barbara or Jenna were to ever (god forbid) get pregnant, Bush would have them get an abortion faster than you can say "Strategery"?

    > Disappearing $200B for Iraq and what that spending is preventing us from doing here at home.

Teddy, are you concerned about deficit spending and the deficit? Or would you rather the money be spent the way you want it?

    > I see a workplace that is increasingly unfair to women

That is BS – no proof.

    > I see leaders in Washington working night and day to shrink education funding

    More BS.

    > Bush would have them get an abortion faster than you can say "Strategery"?

    You don’t know that!

    > we should only go to war because we have to. I know that when the world is with us, we all have a chance to move toward a lasting peace

The whole world was behind us (100+ countries) going into Iraq in 1991 yet Kerry voted against it. Most of you bloggers were probably also against it.

    Paul,

    > I see a workplace that is increasingly unfair to women "That is BS – no proof."

Actually, there is. Women make about $0.7 dollars for every dollar men make – for the same position. It’s the same in Canada.

    > Bush would have them get an abortion faster than you can say "Strategery"? "You don’t know that!"

You’re right. I don’t. And unfortunately, I’ll never know b/c GWB would deny it or hide it. It’s just a hunch that he would rather have his daugther abort than be the father of a "sinner".

    Paul,

Mostly the deficit, to be frank. But I also know that some of that money could be spent on providing health-care for children who have none. Or increasing education opportunities. Or funding first-providers or airport security Or a million other things that would actually strengthen America as opposed to a Theo-Con holy war in Iraq that is assuredly NOT making America safer or stronger.

I love the comments we hear from the left about funding first-responders. It tells me that you guys are against the Bush doctrine of preemption. I guess you want to wait until we are attacked first. Guess what? We were attacked first – 1993, 2000, 2001, etc.

All of the money would go to social programs Teddy under Kerry and you would not complain.

Radical Islam is in a holy war against us and Israel and have been for at least three decades.

Johanna, your hunch is critical for criticals sake.

Johanna, women make less because they work less. Many get pregnant and take 2-3 months off or quit. My wife, who never graduated college, has always made $10,000 – $20,000 more a year than I and over the last 19 years. She never got pregnant, therefore, she never missed work. Most of the women I know make a ton of money – they are engineers, software programmers, managers, project managers, telecom techs, own their own business, etc. No one is keeping you or women from making lots of money. And there is always eBay.

I am just glad the Canadian dollar is so much weaker than the US Dollar – makes for a great vacation and spending money in Canada, where many of the anti-war protesters and dopeheads went.

Paul. Just in case YOU didn’t catch what you said, I’ll repeat it for you.

You said that if women don’t make as much as men, it’s because they got pregnant and "missed" work. I’m not continuing this conversation.

Keep spending your hard earned money in Canada please. We quite enjoy it a**hole.

And let’s not forget whom we have to thank for the training of bin Laden: the reagan bush administration.

    John,

Thanks, but I think Andrew Sullivan used it long before I did. I just love how completely it sums up their beliefs and philosophies.

Paul, you know what your own leaders have told you. "It’s not a matter of if, but when." And if that is the case, don’t we have an obligation to fund first-providers at a level that ensures they can respond capably and quickly to any future attack?
