Rush Limbaugh: Scum of the Earth

...and it's not really fair to scum.

Share article:

From Media Matters:

Radio host Rush Limbaugh claimed that “half of the [Kerry political] base hates the military, hates America.” Then, in discussing a new advertisement by MoveOn PAC that depicts an American soldier caught in the “quagmire” of Iraq, Limbaugh declared that the ad was a “classic illustration” of the fact that “extreme liberals … love it when the military loses.”

The full clips are even worse. The whole story — with actual sourcing, audio, explanations and substantive and verifiable background links, instead of tweaked, out-of-context, misleading, lying bullshit — right here.

Reason #864 to vote against Bush: Demonstrate to that sick, America-hating fuck, Rush Limbaugh what real patriots think of him and his sick, twisted, demented ilk.

Honestly? I know I’ve said this before, but this "America-hater" stuff really baffles me.

It seems it is a very big insult to tell an American that he’s an American-hater. Maybe the culture is a little different here, but if people were to call each other Canada-haters here, there would be a lot of laughing afterwards.

The first time I heard the term America-hater, it was directed at Michael Moore. I still remember thinking, "What?! How can someone be told they hate their country for making a documentary about their country?"

Probably because the documentary was bringing some issues to light that people didn’t want to hear, right? But I have to ask: Michael Moore is a millionaire. If he actually hated America, he would have moved to Canada or Sweden a long time ago, don’t you think?

I guess I just don’t understand why some people let such an irrelevant comment bother them so much. So Rush said that the Kerry political base hates the military and hates America. Oooooh! I’m shaking in my boots. Please. It would be like me telling you that you had eleven toes. It’s completely untrue and completely immature. I can just hear my kids saying it. "Oh yeah? Yeah?! Well, you’re a ……you’re a …..you’re a CANADA HATER!!!!"

On another note…I’m trying to think of a situation when a real America-hater would be in the spotlight. Someone who hates themselves and their country and everyone in it. A person who’s intention would be to lie so that he could turn his countrymen against each other and the world and create chaos. Is it just me, or did I just describe Bush?

You may the precise point, about Bush, that I was hoping to making about Limbaugh.

Those that would label others as "America Haters" because they have a different opinion about the direction of our country and the choices our Administration is making, are themselves apparently, haters of America.

America was built on such freedom of expression. And to twist the expression of those freedoms into something so loathesome (like telling Troops in battle that a certain groups "hates" them because the group disagrees with the political decisions made that put their lives at risk is repulsive.)

There is also the historical matter of where this "America Hater" business comes from.

It comes out of the now mostly discredited (except in the case of the twisted rightwingnuts) Communist Witch Hunts of Joe McCarthy in the 50’s.

His "Anti-American Activities Committee" held public hears and private witch hunts that resulted in the despicable branding of thousands of good Americans as "America Hating Commies". Which, in turn resulted in thousands of folk unfairly losing their lively hood and many of them their lifes.

It was also a thinly-veiled attempt at Anti-Semetic purging as Jewish groups and Jews in general, were often charged with being "Anti-American" simply because of an association with their religious backgrounds and ancestral homelands.

The whole business of "Anti-American" slurs is itself — ironically – the very essence of true Anti-Americanism. For only those who despise a system wherein folks speak up and express their opinion, whether it is in favor of the current government or against it — the very elements that founded this democracy — could possibly be regarded, in reality, as "Anti-American". Since that sort of thinking is contrary to everything our constitution stands for.

Rush’s opinions about George Bush are not Anti-American. Rush’s attacks on other Americans for their opinions, and the sick and twisted way in which he misrepresents them for political gain, is what makes him, and those who parrot his ideology, truly Anti-American.

Hope that clears up at least my thinking for ya, Canada Girl! 😉

Here’s a nice quote from Rush today (9/23) about Kerry’s idea of holding a summit to discuss Iraq w/ our allies

"A summit has never solved anything during a war."

I will now open the floor to anyone who wishes to list the numerous times summits have, in fact, solved issues in a time of war.

Uh, Paul…did you happen to read the article you just pointed to???

It makes the precise points I made above.

    How daft are you precisely?

    Teddy,

The "summits" ending the Russo-Japanese war? How about the "summit" that ended WW1? It could be argued that precisely the lack of a summit led to the disaster that was the Spanish civil war, the rise of the various faces of fascism, etc. How about the "end" of the Korean conflict? i also seem to recall a meeting of various nations in the last decade of the last century that returned the autocrats in Kuwait to power. There may be something to nations getting together and solving problems.

I read it. You guys say we hate America and we say you guys hate America – so what?

Col. Oliver North said that the anti-war crowd is really the anti-America crowd. Hannity disagreed with him.

Brad said on 9/23/2004 @ 2:09pm PT: [Permalink]

No, Paul. Apparently you didn’t read it. Or you are incapable of understanding the english language.

The article pointed out how Hannity and Coulter have made charges that the Left hates America without providing a single solitary piece of evidence to that effect.

The charges (not unlike those that I have made) about the Right hating America have been backed up with specific examples of specific instances where someone on the Right has specifically made an anti-American statement (e.g. telling millions of Americans that unspecified members of "the left" Hate American Troops, Hate the American Military and Hope for America’s Failure in a War) or committed anti-American actions (e.g. Requiring Americans to sign "loyalty oaths" to attend a campaign rally with a sitting Vice President).

Try again. Read before you shoot off your mouth. Or stop wasting everyone’s time with your uninformed, unintelligable babble.

  8. 11)
Paul said on 9/23/2004 @ 4:32pm PT: [Permalink]

    The article also states:

"One thing Hannity and his ilk really hate is America. That’s right. They are the true America haters, not liberals. They are opposed to so many American ideals, such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the checks and balances in place to ensure civil rights are not abused by law enforcement."

"Ann Coulter also hates America, and liberals."

    My point is made!

  9. 12)
Brad said on 9/23/2004 @ 4:50pm PT: [Permalink]

What point? That folks like Rush, Coulter and Hannity hate America and those of us who charge that can show point after point, statement after statement, action after action to demonstrate that?

Versus you jackasses who claim "Liberals Hate the Military" and "Liberals want America to be defeated" without a single piece of evidence to back it up?

Your lack of ability to comprehend even the simplest matters is becoming rather tiresome, Paul. Feel free to head back to the Freepers where you can all be uninformed kool-aid drinking yutzes together without anybody calling you on it. It’s really becoming tiresome here, Paul.

johnhp said on 9/24/2004 @ 1:46am PT: [Permalink]

    Paul,

what you completely fail to do is account for a little thing those of us who understand things like to call REALITY. Let me give you an exaple from what Brad was saying.

It could be argued that the right hates the idea of a representative republic because its Leader (wonder what that word is translated into italian or german???) requires that those attending his speeches sign loyalty oathes. This means he is never presented with ideas of an opposition.

On the other hand, the right claims that those who disagree with Mr. Bush policy decisions, for instance the Iraq war, hate America. That has not basis in our political system or history. Mr. Bush’s foreign policy is not identical to an American principle.

You, of course, will not understand the difference and yammer on.

    John,

Excellent!! Also would have accepted any of the numerous conferences held during WW2.

What bothers me most about Rush (besides the fact he’s a blowhard shill w/o an ounce of integrity or independence) is that he’s says shit like this, and no one calls him on it. Worse, people will believe him.

The fact is that a summit b/t us and our allies could do a lot of good right now.

  12. 16)
johnhp said on 9/24/2004 @ 4:33am PT: [Permalink]

    Teddy,

The fact that these guys sop up the fact free spew is simply amazing. i would be amazed to believe something so incomprehensibly assinine. the loss of the "equal time doctrine" has irreparably damaged the republic.

    The very wise johnhp stated:
"the loss of the "equal time doctrine" has irreparably damaged the republic."

I could not agree with you more there, John. I’ve been pondering that very thought for the last week or two and how to best express it here. Perhaps I will do so in the not too distant future.

Just wanted to highlight your thought, because I don’t believe many folks (certainly not the dazed and confused like Paul) understand what really happened when Reagan allowed that doctrine to fall. And the disastrously damaging effect it has had on our country.

I am a conservative republican, and do enjoy listening to Rush’s program, and although I don’t agree with him on a great many issues, and think he has quite frankly made an ass out of himself on numerous occasions, he does accurately point out that there is a faction of the far left that does, if not in fact, than in practice, demonstrate what could best be described as a hatred of the millitary, and yes, even America. Furthermore, if you disagree with the man, it would serve you best to debate him on the issues. To lower yourselves to personal attacks on anyone, only serves to prove him more correct in his assessment of the liberal movement in this country. Caliing him the scum of the earth, and then posting it on the internet, will only serve to convince those reading this, who do not include themselves among any party, that the democratic party are akin to bitter, angry children who are throwing a tantrum until mommy lets them get there way. If the left ever wants to regain a place of promonance in the political arena, they must first get past this pettiness and get back to the issues.
