Pat Tillman’s mother Mary said in 2005, about the Bush Administration’s unforgivable cover-up, exploitation of her son’s death by “friendly-fire” in Afghanistan before the 2004 Presidential Election…
“Pat had high ideals about the country; that’s why he did what he did,” Mary Tillman said in her first lengthy interview since her son’s death. “The military let him down. The administration let him down. It was a sign of disrespect. The fact that he was the ultimate team player and he watched his own men kill him is absolutely heartbreaking and tragic. The fact that they lied about it afterward is disgusting.”
And, as she reminded us again last spring:
I would like someone to be held accountable. I’d like for them to discover and try to discover who was involved with this cover-up. It’s a horrible thing that they did. And I think that if people don’t see that, it’s very sad, because it means that we have been numbed to all the lies and deceptions that we’ve been faced with during these last eight years.
Marcy Wheeler has much more, in memory of the man who shoulda been there today…
I was never in the military, except for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. I did that for my country after 9/11. But I know how to salute. This is for Pat Tillman (and I am a Steelers fan!)
Thanks for reminding us of this Brad. Just one more sad example of how the crimes of the Bush administration will be felt over and across generations. Just one more reason to make sure they are held accountable for those crimes. It would be nice if President Obama could be reminded of this very incident.
Hey Brad, where’s my hat tip? 🙂

And the worst part about it, was that both wars were based on Bush administration lies. Pat Tillman was one of many honorable soldiers, some fallen, some walking wounded-told to fight and die not for American ideals and values but to make rich men richer. As a military family, we have been onto them for quite sometime; well before it started. Although like most Americans, they “had us going” with the “justness” of war in Afghanistan. Research has since shown that just is not the case at all.
I have nothing but compassion for the Tillman family, but (considering we have soldiers getting electrocuted just for showering, made by KBR) this not just about Pat Tillman. There are a lot of military families without responsible, respectful answers as to their sacrifice.
Rather Pat Tillman, due to his skills, is a huge symbol and his great loss is the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfield signature of these wars.
I can only hope this resonates with and shames/humbles the arm chair warriors who cheered this madness on. (Obviously not you guys)
Thanks, Prissy.
Screw the suits, there are MORE PEOPLE THAN THEM.
