Incredibly, the Bush-appointed prosecutors in the Siegelman case (who are, inexplicably, still on the job!) have now requested an even longer sentence for the former Democratic Gov. of Alabama who was railroaded as part of a Rove-led political prosecution.
RAW STORY offers the amazing details on the twenty-year sentence now being sought by the federal prosecutors to replace the seven years he was originally screwed with. The entire prosecution needs to be entirely thrown out, just as the case against Republican Sen. Ted Stevens was.
And where is AG Eric Holder in all of this? I’d sure as hell love to know, as I asked in my April 13th letter to him on behalf of VR’s Restore Justice at Justice campaign requesting an investigation of all illegal, Bush-era political prosecutions. This news is utterly disgusting. It’s downright Rovian, take a bad situation, make it worse and rub their noses in it just to make sure everybody gets the message. Yea, yea, I’ll send more emails (calling became too expensive) to the relevant parties but so far that hasn’t been working.

I am absolutely shocked that Siegelman’s 2002 Victory in the Alabama Governor’s Race was stolen. Then he’s persecuted because Republicans want to make sure there are no more fair elections or Democrats available to run. And Obama does nothing.

I wouldn’t have minded this egregiously long period of time getting the US Attorney mess sorted out if they’d have put back in the ones fired by * and fired the others, letting underlings punt while filling all the top spots.
Even as I am appalled that this area of business has been known to be of particular importance to get cleaned up and functioning right again for a couple YEARS now, and so should have been completely handled extremely quickly, I could have settled for that, things being as hectic as they are.
Obviously, NO attention has been paid to getting a properly functioning Justice Department back, or no way would these people have been left to cook this up. The whole gang of partisan underperformers put in place by Rove and Company have simply been left there to play their games for nearly FOUR months.
What? Did Obama think they would be so thrilled by his charm and that he didn’t fire them that they’d just suddenly be capable of doing their jobs and forget all their vicious partisan perfidies?
They’ve done a swell job of making Obama and Holder look like boobs, here, but they’ve damn well helped them.

Patience, folks, there’s a lot happening right now.
One thing about the Siegelman case still under Bush era federal prosecutors; if they dug a hole too deep (which I believe thsy did in grand, cavernous fashion) they will keep digging out of habit. And in the process, they uncover their malfeasance all the more meaningfully.
This double-down by Roves own DOJ minions on Siegelman reminds me of Cheney’s media blitz. The louder they cry, the more desperate they look.
It is quite doubtful that Siegelman’s justice will come at the hands of Bush era prosecutors. Before it reaches that point again, there will be heads rolling all over Alabama, and their replacements aren’t going to be going after Siegelman.
They may want all the prosecution’s Siegelman court documents that haven’t been conveniently shredded, but it won’t be to rebuild a trumped-up case against Siegelman, it will be to start formulating what charges will be filed against Rove and his illegal Alabama posse.
