The problem is that, outside of the progressive caucus, and rare members of the administration like Elizabeth Warren, there is really no one in either Congress or the Executive branch who truly represents the interest of the vast majority of people who voted for Obama's "change we can believe in" in 2008.

In opting for an expansion of the "war on terror," in pandering to Wall Street, the military-industrial complex, the oil cartek, the health insurance lobby, drug companies, etc., Obama and corporate Democrats ceded populism to the billionaire funded and manipulated "know nothings," aka "The Tea Party."

The only thing the corporate Dems can campaign on is "we're not those nutty tea baggers."

Yes, it's insane for anyone to think that any good came come from replaying the 8 yr. Bush nightmare will somehow salvage our ruined economy. But, there is a vast swath of misinformed Americans whose access to "news" is the MSM and Fox, which has convinced them that there only "choice" is to either vote Republican or vote for a corporate Dem.

Their lives are in the tank, so they opt for the illusion of change, not realizing that it is the class of billionaire sociopaths who are funding the pseudo-populist "Tea Party," and not government which is the source of the demise of the American working class.

As I wrote some time ago in an altogether different context, a choice between the corrupt and the crazy & corrupt is not much of a choice at all.
