@Brad The electoral reform act is shaping up. Thanks for your suggestion that hand counted paper ballots should be required. Robert David Steele is meeting with independent parties to further develop a strategy.
McThorgood –
Thanks for touching base again on that, amigo. I’m gonna drop you an email to see if I can share some thoughts more directly with either you or whoever is putting that together. A lot of good stuff in there, from my quick read, but a few tweaks can improve greatly. (Eg. Hand-counted ballots are great, but if not done publicly at the precinct, can lead to disaster and even worse than we currently have.)
If you don’t see a note from me there shortly, please let me know!
Hand counted paper ballots. They should be marked by the voter, then dropped into a locked clear, sturdy acrylic box.
As soon as the polls close a group of designated counters (not poll workers, who’re tired after a long day…) – I suggest deputizing high school National Honor Society seniors to do it – counts in the same room as the precinct. Anybody who wants can watch from a short distance. They can video if they want. Should take several hours at each precinct, max. Then totals should be posted for all to see before being officially sent to the county voting authority. The actual ballots should be locked back in the clear box and stored in a safe place, in case a recount is needed.
