I can’t tell you how bored I am with the current, endless, ridiculous, if occasionally hilarious, GOP nomination process. Oops, I just did.
So with that, I’ll note here that I’ve been predicting for months — long before anybody seemed to be mentioning it (as I now hear it more and more each day), and when I was even ridiculed for the suggestion — that there was a better than 50% chance we’d see a brokered GOP convention in Tampa this August. I have long been further suggesting that there was also a better than 50% chance that the ultimate nominee would be someone other than the 10 or so lead candidates running at the time of my original prediction.
I see no reason to modify any of those fairly conservative and, I think, pretty reasonable, predictions now. But let’s see what you guys think. We can look back at your thoughts once the convention rolls around…

You can’t make up shit crazier than what we’ve seen so far outta this GOP nominating process. Given the unpopularity(aside from the recurring brief rollercoaster enthusiasm for the litany of frontrunners) of each and every one of their own candidates I’d think anything is possible at their convention.
Looks to me like Jeb and Diebold et al. will ensure a brokered convention and a skin-o-your-teeth, last-minute, come-from-ridiculously-far-behind “victory” for the forces of evil. Come on over! Europe is wonderful! (so far, at least)
Internet voting!
My pick is Jeb also. Been calling it for months around town.
The Jeb Scenario: Can You Say “President Bush” again?
By Russ Baker on Feb 29, 2012
Could we see a third Bush in the White House? You betcha””and soon. This is not just of casual interest””there’s a lot more than meets the eye. And it explains a lot about the death of democracy.

JEB in a brokered convention.
It depends SOLELY on the most dangerous Bush’s assessment of 1) Obama’s chances for re-election 2) the strength of little brother’s lingering taint.
If Jebby wants the nomination, I assume the GOP “establishment” will accept him eagerly after the months of idiocy the alternatives have displayed.
Ditto for Gov. Beached Whale.
Bush – the smarter – has baggage, (his brother, father and grandfather), but I’m not ruling him out.
The grand old party may need someone with less exposure at the last minute though.
The current clutch of clowns have so fouled the waters I doubt any half serious politico is willing to wade into that sewage. Although, Palin would probably leap in as the party’s “savior”
Just for the record, my money would be on Chris Christie. They’d take him in a HEARTBEAT if he’d agree to run — Today, tomorrow, or at the GOP convention in August.
It is a rather riotous situation from our perspective, however, they may not see it that way.
Nevertheless, my stronger election instincts is with a brokered convention too.
What is interesting to me is that there have been signs of preparation for this in the MSM for some time.
I am also trying to remember that even if they try they may not succeed.
Big Dan:
I don’t know if this is a good endorsement or not – being who I am – but I love your blog. I always learn something there whenever I visit.
I also have been saying this for many months.
My original theory was that this clown show was set up expressly to ensure a groundswell of enthusiasm for a “white knight” to “save” them, and who better than a reclaimed Bush baby?
The MSM has been preparing the populace for just such an occurrence for the last two months.
So depend on it.
Wonder if they’ll still think Palin as VP will snare a few extra wimmen’s votes?
Love ya,
S
Sorry Brad. This election cycle I don’t even have enough enthusiasm or knowledge about the current state of the nomination process to intelligently participate in your poll. In any realistic scenario the GOP (Wall St, MIC) power structure wins. Any of their figurehead candidates is a win for them. Obama is a win for them. What does it matter?
Chris Christie would be a worse laughing stock than anyone running now. You can only imagine the cartoons — Christie as an elephant, a beached whale, a bald eagle that can’t fly, the Sta-Puf Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters — the possibilities are endless. In a pre-TV era he might have made it, but nobody wants another Taft.
After spending so many millions on their campaigns, I doubt the Republican party would snub them all to that extent…unless each candidate is part of a plan to do so. But anything’s possible.
